In Motza (English: No Way Out) is a song recorded by Israeli singer Adam (Haim Cohen), released in April 1987 by Hed Arzi Music on his debut album, 'Sud' (English: Secret). The song was originally recorded in English under the title 'No More Light', written and composed by Mitch Hiller, Anthony Giber and Sam Simpson, but was later recorded in a Hebrew-language version, written by Yoav Ginai. The song was very successful in Israel, becoming one of Adam's most popular songs.
Background[edit]
Adam began his career as an independent singer in France in early 1986, under the stage name 'Chris Life'. He recorded three songs in English, "Gypsy Lady", "Living Alone" and "No More Light", of which the last was the English version, which was written and composed by Mitch Hiller, Anthony Giber and Sam Simpson. When Adam returned to Israel, he recorded a Hebrew version called 'In Motza', written by Yoav Ginai. This version was produced by Izhar Ashdot, and was included in Adam's debut album 'Sud' (English: Secret).
The Hebrew version was very successful in Israel and is one of Adam's most popular songs.
Adam recounted the release of the Hebrew version of the song: "When I arrived on vacation in Israel, we recorded 'In Motza' for amusement, which is the Hebrew version of 'No More Light', and it caught on and succeeded."[1]
Yoav Ginai recounted writing the Hebrew version of the song: "In my mind's eye came New York, where I had studied two years earlier. 'In Motza' was written within a few hours and describes the Big Apple, the city of sin filled with hallucinations and dreams. I came to the recording in Tel Aviv and saw how my words were sung for the first time. I was filled with excitement."[2]
In the Israeli Annual Hebrew Song Chart in 1987, Network C came in seventh place, and Adam was awarded the title of "Male Singer of the Year".
