Indian Olympiad Qualifier In Mathematics
Script error: No such module "AfC submission catcheck". The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) is the first of a series of competitions in secondary school mathematics that determine India's team for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). It is organized by the Mathematics Teachers' Association (India) on behalf of the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) and selects students for the subsequent stage, the RMO, organized by the HBCSE.[1] The selection process takes place over the course of roughly five stages. At the last stage, India selects six members to form the IMO team.
There are two levels of the IOQM:
- the Category A, for students in grades 11 and below
- the Category B, for students in grades 12
The region-wise top 200 students along with an additional group of 5 more girls in Category A in the IOQM are invited to the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO). The region-wise top 40 students in Category B in the IOQM are invited to the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO).[2]
History[edit]
Years | Name | No. of questions | Comments |
---|---|---|---|
2017 | PRMO | 30 | First edition. |
2018 | PRMO | 30 | Second edition. |
2019 | PRMO | 30 | Third edition. |

2021 | IOQM
Part-A |
12 | Delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic. IOQM was conducted as a single examination in lieu of PRMO, RMO, INMO and TSTs of the previous years. It had 2 parts. The Part A was equivalent of IOQM 2020 and Part B was equivalent of INMO and TSTs of the previous years. The Indian team was decided directly on the basis of IOQM Part A and Part B score in this year. IOQM Part A merit certificates were issued to a total of 8,032 candidates. |
2022 | IOQM | 24 | IOQM 2022 was equivalent to IOQM 2020. |
2023 | IOQM | 30 | IOQM returned to it's old format as the PRMO. |
2024 | IOQM | TBA | IOQM 2024 would be held on 8th September 2024. |
Syllabus[edit]
The IOQM syllabus and paper pattern is similar to that of the Mathematics of JEE Advanced. The topics of Algebra, Trigonometry and 2-Dimensional Co-ordinate Geometry are exact match. Calculus along with Vectors and 3-Dimensional Co-ordinate Geometry would be helpful but is not part of the IOQM syllabus and all questions can be solved without the knowledge of these topics.
