Infamous Gaming (INF) is a South American professional esports organization based in Lima, Peru. It was formed in 2015, by Christian 'Xtian' Roque. Infamous is known for its Dota 2 team and particularly for being one of the few South American esports teams to compete internationally at the Major and Premier levels. The group first gained attention by taking first place in the World Electronic Sports Games Americas Finals in 2016,[1] participating in the first WESG and subsequently in 2017 being the first South American team to qualify for The International tournament[2][3] In 2019, the team again qualified for the The International 2019 but attracted attention for a sudden reorganization of the team due several members suddenly departing.[4] The team was defeated 2-0 by Team Secret and ended up placing 7/8th in the tournament[5].

Dota 2

2015

Infamous gaming was founded in December 2015, with an initial roster composed primarily by former members of Team Unknown, also known as Unknown.xiu. Team Unknown (including players Greedy, Kotaro Hayama, and Accel) had been founded earlier in 2015, placed 9-12th in the Frankfurt Major, becoming the first South American team to participate in a Valve event.[3]

2016

Initially, Infamous competed in a number of Minor and Qualifier tier tournaments throughout the first half of 2016 but made its first breakthrough by finishing first in the WESG Americas Finals.[1] Their position qualified them for entry in the WESG tournament in Changzhou, China. After winning their first two matches, the team lost 1-2 to Cloud9 in the semifinals and again 1-2 to Alliance to place fourth.[6]

2017

Infamous was invited to participate and placed first in the 2017 South American Regional Qualifiers for The International earning a place in the championship tournament in Seattle. The team was defeated 1-0 by OG in the first group round to place 13th-16th.[7][8]

2018

Infamous competed in several tournaments in 2018, including placing fourth in the GESC Indonesia Minor,[9] an international pro-circuit tournament where earned points would help qualify for participation in The International. However it was reported that the team failed to register its roster the previous month[10] making them ineligible for an invite to TI2018 and requiring the team to participate in the open qualifiers. The team placed 4-5th and was eliminated in the South American qualifiers and did not participate in TI 2018.

2019

Infamous again placed first in the 2019 South American Regional Qualifiers for The International earning a place in the championship tournament in Shanghai,China. After being placed in the lower-bracket following the round-robin, Infamous won their first two matches 1-0 against Keen Gaming and 2-1 against Newbee[11]. In the third round of the lower bracket the team was defeated by 0-2 Team Secret placing 7-8th.[5][12][11]
