Insight Music is a British independent record label specialising in underground electronica genres, including ambient, chillwave, and future garage. Founded in 2011 by Stefan Baranowski, the label is renowned for its commitment to promoting emerging bedroom producers and aspiring artists.

History and Mission

Insight Music was established with the goal of providing a platform for emerging artists in the underground electronica scene. Founder Stefan Baranowski shared his inspiration for starting the label:

"It was in the Summer of 2011 after numerous shows as a touring drummer and solo DJ that I realised just how difficult it was to find organic recognition as a smalltime performing artist. I loved music with a passion, and always wanted to share and support the music of friends and industry professionals.

At the time, I had just discovered the soothing, emotional sounds of Irish producer Owsey and was instantly struck by how connecting this music made me feel. Insight began the day I heard ‘I’ll Remain Under Our Antique Sky‘ by Owsey. That was the moment everything changed. This style of music was pure, organic, and heartfelt, in needed to be heard."

Initially starting out as a platform for artists to share, enjoy and comment on each others work, Insight Music soon began releasing music as a record label, working with artists in distributing their music and providing further promotion and support.

During the early years, Insight Music founder Stefan Baranowski studied Music Technology and the University of Hertfordshire, whilst growing the record label across multiple music and streaming platforms.

In February 2012, Insight Music co-partnered the first-ever Insight event at the University of Hertfordshire that featured acts such as Chiptune producer HarleyLikesMusic and Bristol-based DJ Swarms.
