It is a 7 a-side competition.

History[edit]

The Inspectors Cup competition was started in 1893 by 4 Edinburgh school inspectors:

  • John Kerr
  • John Struthers
  • John Crombie
  • John Gunn

John Kerr[edit]

Possibly Dr John Kerr, appointed Chief Inspector of Schools, Southern Division, in 1888, based in Edinburgh. Born Dalry, Ayrshire, in 1830, died 1/12/1916.[1]

John Struthers[edit]

Possibly Sir John Struthers appointed as a HM Inspectors of Schools in Scotland in 1886. He became a senior Civil Servant in the Scottish Education Department and retired in 1921.[2]

John Crombie[edit]

Mr Crombie was a native of Fife, and was educated at Moray House Training College and the University of Edinburgh. As Inspector of Schools he spent practically the whole of his official life in Edinburgh, working in close alliance with the various Chief Inspectors of Schools for Scotland. He was a man of wide interests, and, in particular, did a great deal for the development of the training of teachers.[3]

John Gunn M.A. D.Sc.[edit]

Born in Stromness, Orkney he attended Edinburgh University – where he gained his MA, and DSc, the latter in Mental Science. He was a teacher and school inspector.[4]
