Development[edit]

On November 15th 2019 it was announced that Instant Influencer was being produced at the YouTube Space in Los Angeles, California and the show would be hosted by beauty guru James Charles. On April 4th 2020 Charles released the trailer for the show on his YouTube Channel gaining 6.04 million views. Fans were exited about the release of the show on the 24th of April that year with one fan writing "I’ve never seen someone come back this strong after so many scandals before. PROUD." and another fan writing "Honestly, to think every day multiple people try to ‘cancel’ him, yet no matter what, he comes out stronger. James is a true icon 🦋💘✨". Charles posted a YouTube Video on the 23rd of May 2020 titled "The TRUTH About Instant Influencer... 😬☕️" which hinting to something that Charles didn't want to share, you can watch Charles video here[3]

Filming[edit]

Both Season 1 and Season 2 of Instant Influencer were both filmed in Los Angeles, California. Charles filmed Season 1 of Instant Influencer at the YouTube Space[4] where the production crew working on the show made a set for Charles to use and where production took place. ZHC filmed Season 2 also in Los Angeles, California but it's unclear where he actually filmed the show, all viewers can tell that's in a warehouse somewhere in LA.[2]

Controversy[edit]

On the 26th of March 2021, Vulture reported that Charles won't return to the host Instant Influencer for a Season 2 after allegations arose that Charles “grooming” a 16-year-old fan."[5] A YouTube Spokesperson told Variety that “We can confirm Season 2 of the YouTube originals series ‘Instant Influencer’ will take a new creative direction, including a new host,[5] We thank James for a great first season, and look forward to building on the show’s success by expanding the opportunity to showcase a diversity of creators across the YouTube platform in our upcoming season.”[6] Charles made an apolgy video expressing that he's truly sorry for his actions saying “This is by far the most embarrassing thing to ever happen to me,” Charles said in his July 2 return video, emphasizing it would be “ridiculous and irresponsible to try to just come back to social media and pretend like nothing happened, and move on with regularly scheduled makeup programming.” [7]

On the 26th of January 2022, Dexerto reported that "ZHC under fire amid claims of ripping off contestants for YouTube challenges"[8], in a video by Australian YouTuber, Artist, Animator, TV Presenter and Video Game Developer Jazza. It was reported in his YouTube Videos that Zach Hsieh was trying to gain views to gain attention aswell as money from the video's Jazza said. You can watch the 1st part here[9] and 2nd part here[10]. Jazza also did a "unedited" interview with Zach Hsieh which can be found here[11].
