Insterburg & Co.

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Insterburg & Co. was a German comedian band that had its original lineup from 1967 until 1979.

History

The band name is derived from the stage name Ingo Insterburg (1934 – 2018). The other members were Karl Dall (1941 – 2020), Peter Ehlebracht and Jürgen Barz.[1]

The Insterburg & Co. quartet cultivated the “art of higher nonsense” in the 1960s and 1970s and stood in line with Schobert and Black and Ulrich Roski. Occasionally, they were referred to as "idiot bards".[2] Influenced by contemporary British models like the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and Bob Kerr's Whoopee Band, was their program of comic songs and spontaneous stand-up comedy (although, the term did not exist in Germany at the time)[3]. In the latter case, the four often annoyed each other. They set their skits to music and songs, usually with instruments often made by Ingo Insterburg himself, many of which consisted of converted kitchen, garden, and other everyday tools.[3] During the performances, Karl Dall and Ingo Insterburg often jokingly asked to "explain" the unusual instruments; he himself appeared as a parodist of Hans Albers.[4]

In 1968, the quartet worked with the Jacob Sisters in the movie Quartet in Bed (subtitles: Gossip, Gossip, Thighs – Grandpa wants grandchildren)[5][6], and in the following year in Charley's Uncle and in 1973 in Chapeau Claque[7]. The band made several appearances on the show Dalli Dalli[8] and commonly appeared on the show Music Store (German: Musikladen).[4] Due to the fact that there were only three television programs (ARD, ZDF and the third party programme) in West Germany at the time, the band quickly became known to a wide audience. Their humor made them popular; excerpts from the Musikladen shows are repeated to this day.

The band released numerous records that followed the same concept. In addition to albums with live or studio music, some sketch collections were released. A well-known piece by the group is "I loved a girl" from 1974, which was sung by Ingo Insterburg and stayed in the German single charts for four and a half months.[9] As the group ended in 1979, Dall separated with his solo career as a singer, comedian, actor and television host.[4]
