Institutes of Eminence
'The Institute of Eminence' Tag was first declared by the UGC in September 2017.
The UGC had announced that it would declare 20 universities in the country, 10 of them government-aided and the rest private, institutions of eminence to enable them to evolve into world-class teaching and research centres.
Government institutions ranked among the top 50 by the ministry of human resource development (HRD) would be eligible to apply for the status, the UGC had said.
The purpose of the tag was to recognize 20 of the best universities in the country(Across different parameters) and Grant them greater autonomy and financial support.
Declared Institutes[edit]
So far the MHRD has declared six such institutes of eminence
They are as Follows
- Manipal Academy of Higher Education
- Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani
- Jio Institute (under the greenfield category)
- Indian Institute of Technology Bombay
- Indian Institute of Technology Delhi
- Indian Institute of Science
