The International Association for Bridge Maintenance and Safety (or IABMAS) is an international organization founded in 1999 by Professor Dan M. Frangopol and Professor Joan R. Casas..[1][2] . Its declared mission is "to become the premier international organization for the advancement of the state-of-the-art in the fields of bridge maintenance, safety and management" [3]. The objective of the Association is to promote international cooperation in the fields of bridge maintenance, safety, and management for the purpose of enhancing the welfare of society [4].
Activities[edit]
IABMAS has organized its First International Conference on Bridge Maintenance, Safety and Management in 2002 in Barcelona, Spain (IABMAS'02) [5], the second in 2004 in Kyoto, Japan (IABMAS'04) [6], the third in 2006 in Porto, Portugal (IABMAS'06) [7], the fourth in 2008 in Seoul, Korea (IABMAS'08) [8], the fifth in 2010 in Philadelphia, PA, USA (IABMAS'10) [9][10], the sixth in 2012 in Stresa, Italy (IABMAS'12) [11], the seventh in 2014 in Shanghai, China (IABMAS'14) [12], the eighth in 2016 in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil (IABMAS'16) [13], the ninth in 2018 in Melbourne, Australia (IABMAS'18) [14], the tenth in 2020 in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan (IABMAS'20) [15][16], and the eleventh in 2022 in Barcelona, Spain (IABMAS'22) [17][18]. The twelfth International Conference on Bridge Maintenance, Safety and Management will be held in 2024 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
IABMAS has sponsored several events organized by other associations [19]

In addition, information associated with some recipients can be found on their home organizations' websites, e.g., 2010 Senior Prize [24] for Prof. Ghosn at the City College of New York, USA, 2014 Young Prize [25] for Prof. Lin at Aalto University in Finland, 2016 Senior Prize [26] for Dr. Nader from T. Y. Lin International, and 2018 Young Prize [27] for Prof. Dong at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong.
National Groups[edit]
To better coordinate its activities, the IABMAS provides the possibility of establishing national groups. At present (August 2022) there are thirteen national groups: Australia[28], Brazil [29], Canada [30], Chile [31], China, Italy [32], Japan [33], Korea, Portugal [34], Spain [35], Sri Lanka [36], Turkey [37], and USA [38]
Publications[edit]
Extended versions of selected papers included in the proceedings of IABMAS were published in Special Issues of the international peer-reviewed journal of Structure and Infrastructure Engineering[39] (Taylor & Francis [40]). For example, the extended versions of eight selected papers presented at IABMAS 2010 are published in Volume 10, Special Issue 4: Bridge design, maintenance and management [41] and the extended versions of several selected papers presented at IABMAS 2018 are included in Volume 16, Special Issue 1: Maintenance, monitoring, risk and life-cycle performance of bridges [42][43]. The corresponding proceedings in the format of Hardback and VitalSource eBook can also be shopped online, e.g., IABMAS 2022 [44], IABMAS 2020 [45][46], IABMAS 2018 [47], IABMAS 2016 [48], IABMAS 2014 [49] , and IABMAS 2012 [50]
