International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) is a civil society arm of the United Nations with the mandate to promote peace and appoint people as peace makers across the 193 member states of the United Nations. Following the recommendation by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs on the comprehensive trust worthy engagement of International Association of World Peace Advocates to the United Nations Economic and Social Council, the Council on the 12th of June 2019 granted Special Consultative Status to the association.

The status has since then afforded the organization the legality to partner and collaborate with all United Nations Agencies, Funds, and Programmes to better the workings of the United Nations anywhere in the world for peace and sustainable development. In addition to the ECOSOC Status, IAWPA is also a member of the United Nations Global Compact on Active Participant Status 30511.

Mandate[edit]

International Association of World Peace Advocates is an organization of business technocrats, innovators, social entrepreneurs, and highly professional persons who have pledged to uphold the highest ethical standard of the United Nations and have been so consistent in providing solutions that will make the world a better place. The members of the International Association of World Peace Advocates believe that world peace can easily be achieved by dialogue and by the act of fellowshipping together as a concerned people with mutual feelings of uniting under one indivisible banner of the name United Nations.

The mandate of IAWPA is to enhance the effectiveness of the UN Millennium Development Goals (now the Sustainable Development Goals) and UNESCO Culture of Peace Program particularly the maintenance of global peace and international security and the restoration of human dignity. The association has maintained a track record that is second to none in area of promoting the United Nations peace objectives and commemoration of the United International Observance Days in the world.

The two main functions of IAWPA are: Advocacy for Peace and Ensuring Sustainable Development. The association works through country offices to appoint volunteers, peacemakers, peace advocates, peace ambassadors, and promote the United Nations idea of volunteers around the world.

The International Association of World Peace Advocate’s strength lies on its volunteers of thousands of professionals who in each year bring skills to communities within their borders or abroad to help local people become the driving force of their own communities. They come from more than 190 countries and nearly two thirds of them are from the developing world with an average age of 39 with strong academic potentials to work for humanity.

Almost everywhere one turns in the developing world, UN-International Association of World Peace Advocates are experts in well over 100 professional fields, they help to promote peace, organize peaceful elections, bring emergency relief, promote human rights, improve health facilities, teach peace, render first aids, promote gender equality and protect the environments.

Reality of purpose[edit]

Since 2012 thousands of UN-International Association of World Peace Advocates have been promoting peace through organizing of peace education, peace workshop and hosting various UN-SDG anniversaries in countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Botswana, Togo, Denmark, Gambia, and South Africa etc.

IAWPA is responding to a changing world by moving into new fields of development from war, violence, unemployment, poverty, and inequality to addressing current problem facing the world such as cybercrime, global health challenges, and flood disasters with a view to providing unending solution for a better world.

UN-International Association of World Peace Advocates do carryout development activities at the grassroots and provide partnership with government institutions and the private sectors and UN agencies around the globe. IAWPA also works with non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in all parts of the world.

UN-International Association of World Peace Advocates preaches peace by bringing the United Nations to communities where such awareness never existed; the association builds stronger neighborhoods and restores peace. By virtue of the United Nations Charter, they are mandated to combat poverty and foster self-reliance and to help villages or groups to develop a stronger voice and visibility in the political arena.

Major partners of the International Association of World Peace Advocates include the UN Development Programme (UNDP), UN High Commissioners for Human Rights and for Refugees (UNHCR), UN Peacekeeping Operations (UNDPKO), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the UN Children Fund (UNICEF), the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and United Nations Volunteer (UNV).

Goals, aims, and objectives[edit]

The objectives of the International Association of World Peace Advocates includes:

1. To defend human rights and restore dignity to all persons.

2. To contribute to peace and security by promoting collaboration among groups and individuals through culture and education.

3. To enhance the position of togetherness and family heads through recognition as Peace Advocates for proper family upbringing.

4. To recognize people (both late and alive) as legends and to encourage, the present generation for peace sustainable development.

5. To stimulate reactions in all spheres of life with regard to achieving peace in our society.

6. To connect personalities of high repute to participate in United Nations seminars and conferences around the globe.

7. To bring the presence of the United Nations at the grassroots across 193 countries of the United Nations.

8. To hold governments and world leaders into account on the implementation and achieving sustainable development.

9. To promote United Nations Career Development at various institutions of learning.

10. To ensure the realization of the United Nations Charter leaving no one behind.

11. To establish SDG chapters in churches, schools and in formal and informal organizations.

General Assembly[edit]

The General Assembly meets every two years to set the organization policies at work. It takes decisions on programmes submitted to it by the Executive Board and approves the budget and funding.

Executive board[edit]

The Executive Board is made up of well-focused and committed Chartered Peace Advocates appointed by the Director General. It meets 4 or 6 times a year or as need arises and supervises the execution of International Association of World Peace Advocates' Programes in any country of host.

The secretariat[edit]

The Secretariat which implements the programes consists of a Secretary General and officials representing all the states/members countries.

Other activities include monitoring, analysis, preparations of reports and meetings of various kinds. A number of Permanent Commissions and Committees exist to assist the board in its functions.
