International Christian School Nonthaburi (โรงเรียนนานาชาติสาธิตคริสเตียนนนทบุรี) also known as ICSN is a PK-12 International school located in Nonthaburi, Thailand on Pracharat road. The curriculum is in English, and it is mostly attended by Thai students leaning English as a second language. There are currently 650 students.
It is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), the Office of Private Education Commission (OPEC), The Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (ONESQA), The US College Board AP, and the Thai Ministry of Education.[1]
History[edit]
ICSN was founded in 1983 as Panda Kindergarten by founders, Mr. Sahat Ektrakul and Mrs. Surang Ektrakul.[2] In 1997 the school changed its name to Global English School (โรงเรียนสาธิตคริสเตียนวิทยา). At that time, Panda Kindergarten became a bilingual school and committed to a mission of providing a Christian education in English by native speakers. It grew from 4 students in its first year to 30 in its second to close to 100 in its third. The school continued to grew in size and reputation. Most years saw the addition of a new building or program.
ICSN hired North American teachers every year and tried to have a foreign administrator as much as possible. The administrators (in chronological order) were Joy Ronald, Gary Spengler, Michelle Tuggy, Becky Radcliffe, Conrad Lechelt, after which there were a couple of administrative teams of teachers. At this point, the children of the founders had grown up and received American university degrees. Solomon Ektrakul (along with his wife Angi) and Esther Ektrakul took on the main administrative duties of the school.
It would not be possible to list all of the teachers and staff who have worked at ICSN. In addition to a full foreign staff, there is also a full Thai staff. As a bilingual school students were still obligated to complete Thai standardized tests and this kept students and staff alike busy, completing a full English education in all subject areas except social studies as well as a full Thai language and social studies program. A great variety of curricula and standards have been developed and followed. In its second year, the curricula developed at ICSN became at that time the standard of bilingual schools in Thailand, and was distributed to them all by the Ministry of Education.
It began the process to become an international school during the COVID-19 pandemic and changed its name to International Christian School Nonthaburi in March of 2022. It currently serves a population of 650 international students, with a large majority from Thailand.
