Overview
The International Project Management Association (IPMA) is the world’s first international professional project management association, founded in 1965.[1].
Overview
IPMA serves project management professionals through 70 national project management associations[2] worldwide, promoting competence-based project management[3]. IPMA experts-volunteers issued a set of global standards in project, programme, and portfolio management, such as the Individual Competence Baseline[4] with a cross-reference to ISO21500 Guidance on Project Management[5]
History
IPMA was founded in 1965[6] and was known as the association called INTERNET until 1994[6].
IPMA Standards
IPMA has defined the competence-based global standards in project, programme, and portfolio management:
- International Competence Baseline for Project Management[4]

Awards
IPMA recognizes excellence in project management in different categories, such as individual awards, project excellence awards, and research awards.
Research
IPMA carries out various research projects and cooperation in project management, such as the Project Leadership and Society, an academic open access journal in cooperation with Elsevier.
