The International Society for Data Science and Analytics (ISDSA) is a professional association for those, researchers or practitioners, who are interested in data science and data analytics. ISDSA is an exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.[2] In 2021, ISDSA has about 300 members. ISDSA organizes an annual meeting on data science[3] and publishes its Journal of Behavioral Data Science[4].
History
ISDSA was founded in May 2016 by three professors at the University of Notre Dame, including the current president Prof. Zhiyong Zhang. There are two types of membership at ISDSA: regular member and fellow. Anyone can register as a regular member but fellows are awarded to members through a committee.
Journal of Behavioral Data Science
Since 2021, ISDSA publishes its free-of-charge to publish and open access Journal of Behavioral Data Science[5]
Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting of ISDSA is held in May or June of each year. It typically spans two days with a small number of presentations by its members in a single session. The program is arranged to allow ample discussion of each presentation. The meeting selects the best paper awards among all presentations.
2021 Meeting
Because of the ongoing pandemic, the 2021 Annual Meeting of ISDSA was held online on June 5, 2021. Eight speakers shared their research during the meeting.
- Dr. Mike Cheung, Professor, National University of Singapore
- Dr. Kevin Grimm, Professor, Arizona State University
- Dr. Qiwei He, Research Scientist, Educational Testing Service
- Dr. David Hunter, Professor, Pennsylvania State University
- Dr. Nilam Ram, Professor, Stanford University
- Dr. Doug Steinley, Professor, University of Missouri
- Dr. Matthew Wilkens, Associate Professor, Cornell University
- Dr. Jerry Jiunyu Wu, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University
A pre-conference workshop on statistical power analysis is taught by Prof. Johnny Zhang[6] from the University of Notre Dame.
2020 Meeting
The 2020 Meeting of ISDSA was originally scheduled to take place in person at University of Notre Dame in USA from May 26 to 27, 2020. But because of COVID-19, the meeting was changed to a virtual meeting. About 30 researchers from USA, China, UK, and other countries presented their research. Two best paper awards were selected.
- Dr. Kai Wang, University of Iowa, on Treatment effects on an outcome under nonlinear modeling[7]
- Daheng Wang, Tianwen Jiang, Nitesh Chawla, Meng Jiang, University of Notre Dame on TUBE: Embedding Behavior Outcomes for Predicting Success[8]
2019 Meeting
The 2019 Meeting of ISDSA took place in Nanjing, China, during July 6–8, 2019. The 2019 Meeting had 28 presentations. The researchers were from different academic disciplines and industries from multiple countries. They presented applications and methods in the areas of education, environmental research, medical research, political science, psychology, and so on. Two best paper awards were selected.
- Dr. Xin Gu, Associate Professor, East China Normal University on Evaluating informative hypotheses using the Bayes factor.
- Dr. Zijun Ke, Assistant Professor, Sun Yet-Sen University on Comparing three MASEM approaches to quantifying or explaining between-study heterogeneity in SEM parameters
The meeting published its proceedings entitled New Developments in Data Science and Data Analytics.[9]
