International knifetropolis (Chinese: 國際大刀會; Jyutping: gwok3jai3daai6dou1wui6; literally: 'international knife city') is an internet slang of Hong Kong, it describes and parodies phenomenon of the rise of crimes of Hong Kong (mostly knife crimes committed between triads) after the implementation of the national security law.

Background

Hong Kong has always been one of the active places of the underworld. The major gangs including Sun Yee On, 14K, Wo Shing Wo, Shui Fong, and Wo Hop To occupies territories all around Hong Kong. Due to conflicts of interest, they often maintain a state of cooperation and struggle at the same time, and from time to time they will fight and kill each other. Due to the frequent incidents of gang vendettas, after 2020, gang fights in Hong Kong have become even more unscrupulous. There are also gang members who openly gather in crowds and walk around the streets with weapons. There have even been gang revenge killings which often injures innocent bystanders. After these events happened, the locals and even the media often bring up a joke stating "A normal day in the knifetropolis!"
