Dr. Indranill Basu-Ray
Indranill Basu-Ray MD,DNB, D.Sc, FACP, FACC, DSc (Honoris causa) is a staff Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist & the Director of Cardiovascular Research at the Memphis Veterans Medical Center in Memphis. He is also an Adjunct Professor at The University of Memphis, Memphis, TN, USA. He is the Chairman of the interdepartmental Cardiac Resuscitation Council that determines policies, educates, and research on cardiac resuscitation for all physicians. He is a Visiting Professor of Cardiology and the Head of Integrative Cardiology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences at Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India. He is also a faculty in guiding innovative research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology- linQ program. He has been a former faculty at multiple distinguished schools, including the Harvard Medical School and Tulane University. [1][2][3]
Work in the field of Yoga research
Dr. Indranill Basu-Ray is one of the pioneering clinicians and researchers in the field of Yoga therapy for heart diseases. Dr. Basu-Ray is a disciple of the powerful and esoteric Yogic system Kriya yoga started by Mahaavatar Babaji. He was initiated by Swami Hariharananda Giri, the direct disciple of Sri Yukteshwar Giri and a Brother disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda.
Dr. Basu Ray has taught meditation to hundreds of interested people all over the world. He was also one of the Cardiologist who wrote down the practice guidelines for the American Heart Association. [4]
He is the founder of American Academy for Yoga in Medicine, not for profit organization dedicated to advancing the integration of yoga therapy into healthcare. The AAYM provides education, resources, and support for healthcare professionals and yoga therapists who use yoga as a complementary therapy for the treatment of various medical conditions. Dr. Basu-Ray and his team performed the first case of CCM in the region and one of the early cases in the USA.
Notable work
He is the Editor-in-Chief of the world's first reference book "The Principle and Practice of Yoga in Cardiovascular Diseases" written by 75 clinicians and researchers. The book has received commendation from the Honorable Prime Minister of India. [6]
