InvestorPlace[edit]
InvestorPlace is a financial advice website and financial newsletter publisher covering stocks, exchange-traded funds, cryptocurrency, and other investment strategies.
InvestorPlace is one of America's largest, longest-standing independent financial research firms. Founded in 1974, InvestorPlace is headquartered in Baltimore, MD, and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of MarketWise.[1] MarketWise started in 1999 with one brand and the simple idea to publish intelligent, independent, insightful and in-depth investment research.
The company publishes research and recommendations for self-directed investors from a range of financial editors, who write their own respective newsletters and provide their services through web sites or e-mail services to customers. InvestorPlace also owns and manages the destination website InvestorPlace.com.
InvestorPlace Media, LLC operates a web portal that offers financial advisory services. The Company offers stock market, mutual fund, options, foreign exchange, and investment advisory information. InvestorPlace Media also provides financial news, investor education, and market research services in the United States.
The company was formerly known as Phillips Investment Resources. The company's founder, Thomas L. Phillips, was a conservative political activist and frequent political prognosticator.[2]
InvestorPlace is home to some of the nation's most successful and independent investing analysts. The work of Investor place has been featured in publications such as Barron's[3], Time and The Wall Street Journal. Additionally, their analysts have made appearances in outlets like Bloomberg[4], CNN and CNBC.
Company History[edit]
InvestorPlace was founded in 1974, originally under the name Phillips Publishing, Inc. In 1999, Phillips Publishing Inc. split into two parts. At that time, Phillips Investment Resources, the predecessor to the current-day InvestorPlace, was created.[5]
On January 1, 2007, the private equity firm Avista Capital Partners acquired all of the assets of Phillips Investment Resources.[6] That same year, the company was renamed InvestorPlace Media, LLC.[7]
In April of 2010, InvestorPlace led the submission of an Amici Curiae brief[8], in conjunction with major media companies including The E.W. Scripps Company, Forbes LLC, The Gannett Company, The Hearst Corporation, The McClatchy Company, and The New York Times Company, in support of Pirate Investors LLC. The U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals subsequently denied the appeal for which InvestorPlace and other parties field the Amici Curiae brief.[9]
InvestorPlace.com Managing Editor Jeff Reeves was one of 24 financial journalists that then President Barack Obama invited to the White House for a discussion on economic policies at the first Personal Finance Online Summit.[10]
In 2011, InvestorPlace sold its ChangeWave Research division to The 451 Group. The ChangeWave Research division provided proprietary market research on technology issues based on surveys of business and technology professionals.[11]
In August 28, 2017, S&A Holdings, LLC purchased all of the assets of InvestorPlace Media, LLC for an undisclosed sum.[12]
