Venkatachalam Irai Anbu is a household name in Tamil Nadu. He is an IAS officer, writer, columnist, educator and motivational speaker. He is a versatile personality with multifarious talents and he focuses his energy in transforming the youth of Tamil Nadu.

Early and personal life[edit]

He was born on 16 September 1963 in Kattur Village, Salem district, Tamil Nadu. Hailing from a middle class family, he nurtured high thinking and was keen to pursue a purposeful life even from his school days. His brother Thiruppugazh is also a civil servant, Gujarat cadre. He has done remarkable work in disaster management during the Gujarat earthquakes. He was invited to officiate as Adviser, Planning Commission of Nepal to handle their reconstruction operations.

Education[edit]

  • He did B.Sc. (Agri) as his basic qualification. After entry into the service, he has completed M.B.A., M.A. (English), M.A. (Labour Management), M.Sc. (Psychology), Ph.D. (Business Administration), Ph.D. (English) and Post Doctorate (Management). He has done his Praveen in Hindi and Kovidaha in Sanskrit. He is the university topper in B.Sc. (Agri). He got 15th position at all-India level in 1987a Civil Services Examination and stood first in Tamil Nadu.

AS ADMINISTRATOR

Dr V Irai Anbu is an atypical member of the Indian Administrative Service. He has constantly been on the guard against getting fettered by the bureaucratic routine or obsession with power. With innate sensitive, creative impulse and spiritual orientation, he has converted his life into a voyage of discovery. This voyage touches many shores – literary expression, perceptive seeking and purposeful sharing.

Has worked in government for nearly 30 years in various capacities and has worked in close association with the rural poor while espousing their cause. Right from the beginning of his career, he is known for his absolute honesty and impeccable integrity. He ensures fair administration and spruces up government machinery to provide effective governance. At times, grievances have been redressed before the petitioner returns home. Prevention of corruption and curbing malpractices are his way of functioning rather than eradicating them at a later stage. He weaves his administrative strategy based on this principle.

SUB-COLLECTOR, NAGAPATTINAM DIVISION:

  • As Sub-Collector of Nagapattinam Division, he played a vital role in the district bifurcation and flood relief activities. Identification of site for new Collectorate, buildings for housing the district offices, residence for Collector, etc. were done by him at a short notice. His personal equation with the public of the town helped in completing this Herculean task in a short time.
  • For the first time, he booked the smuggling of silica sand that was transported to Karaikal without proper documents and paved the way for getting appropriate license thereby augmenting government income. His frequent night raids prevented the smuggling of river sand and augmented the government income.
  • Effectively monitored the establishment of DPCs (Direct Procurement Centres) and prevented illegal smuggling of paddy to adjoining states.
  • Conducted elections for the parliament and assembly without any law and order issue. Not even a single untoward incident took place during the elections.
  • Played a significant role in organizing unbroken human chain in Nagapattinam Division during the visit of Cauvery Water Tribunal and impressed upon them the importance of Cauvery water in the lives of delta farmers.
  • Ensured total peace in Nagore belt which witnessed heavy riots before he took over as Sub-Collector. There was not a single untoward incident when he served as Sub-Collector, Nagapattinam. He spent the entire night in Nagore Dargah during the Kandoori festival to maintain law and order in the region. He walked the entire distance with Viswaroopa Vinayagar during Vinayakar Chathurthy celebrations to avert communal riots.
  • Did lot of projects by mobilizing voluntary contributions in the region. Constructing compound wall for Nagapattinam District Headquarters Hospital, beautification of parks, installation of road signs, laying of roads are a few to be named. He renovated the Noon Meal Centres by voluntary contribution from philanthropists and made them suitable for educating the children.
  • Coordinated the establishment of Naval Detachment at Nagapttinam to keep vigil in the coastal areas.
  • Organized the preparatory work for the implementation of total literacy campaign in the district by coordinating IEC activities highlighting the inevitability of education in the present scenario.

ADDITIONAL COLLECTOR OF CUDDALORE DISTRICT

  • As Additional Collector of Cuddalore District, he provided training programmes to the inmates of Cuddalore Central Prison on various employment skills for the first time under TRYSEM (Training of Rural Youth for Self Employment) so that they need not relapse into unlawful activities after release.
  • Introduced teak plantation and cashew plantation in South Arcot District. Extensive tree planting was done in TB Sanatorium, prison premises, schools, hospitals and co-operative sugar mills. Institutional plantation helped in cent-per-cent survival and prevented pilferage.
  • Poultry farms were organized for Narikuravas for the first time in the entire State. They were given IRDP loan (Integrated Rural Development Programme) for unconventional occupations and they successfully became entrepreneurs.
  • Narikuravas were provided with group houses using the District Decentralized Plan.
  • Construction of group houses under Indira Awaz Yojana was entrusted to the beneficiaries themselves. Similarly, efforts were taken to entrust the responsibility of constructing school buildings to Parent Teachers’ Association. It helped in enhancing the quality of construction apart from provision of additional facilities from the savings.
  • Tree co-operative societies were organized for planting and maintaining trees in rural areas.
  • Construction of fishermen quarters was entrusted to the fishermen and the contractor system was abolished. The savings were used for additional facilities in the house. The government passed an order approving this initiative.
  • Construction of school buildings was handed over to Parent Teachers Association and the interference of contractors was abolished.
  • Training for women auto drivers was introduced for the first time in the entire State and credit facilities were tied up with the bankers for the purchase of vehicles after the training.
  • Low cost construction technology was introduced with the association of construction centre at Auroville for using compressed mud blocks and prefabricated roof materials.
  • DWCRA (Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas) was well implemented and women groups were given innovative trades like running canteens, poultry farms, doll making and assembling delivery kits.
  • IRDP Awareness Programmes were conducted in the villages showcasing the success stories to ensure better cooperation from the bankers. It inspired the bank officials to liberally provide loans to the downtrodden sector.
  • Played a significant role in Total Literacy Campaigns and was actively involved in the first phase of Arivoli Iyakkam.
  • Workshops were conducted to disseminate the importance of bio-gas plants. and the district made sufficient progress in this scheme. Smokeless ovens were introduced in the rural areas in large scale and villages with cent-per-cent smokeless chullahs were declared smoke free villages.

SPECIAL OFFICER, EIGHTH INTERNATIONAL TAMIL CONFERENCE

  • Acted as Co-ordinator for all the committees constituted for conducting the World Tamil Conference and the committees were successfully convened. The event went on in a grandiose manner in Thanjavur from 1 January to 5 January 1995.
  • Co-ordinated all the proceedings for the seminar which were held in Tamil University, Thanjavur. Finalized all the cultural activities held in A.R. Grounds, Thanjavur.
  • Many proposals were initiated and funds were provided by the government for giving a face-lift to Thanjavur. They include formation of ring road, construction of flyover near Collectorate, under bridge near railway station, floodlighting Brihadeeswarar Temple, renovation of Sivagangai Park, formation of new bus stand, construction of commemorative tower and auditorium, installation of Raja Rajan statue in the auditorium, construction of commemorative arches, face-lift to Tamil University, Construction of Karikal Valavan auditorium in Tamil University, renovation of Thanjavur Palace, etc.
  • Co-ordinated the publication of three souvenirs on the occasion. Invitations were printed with paintings illustrating Tamil art and culture. For the first time, the invitations did not carry the photographs of any particular person.
  • Book exhibition was organized in the World Tamil Meet to provide opportunity for the international scholars to pick up the books of their choice in one place.

JOINT COMMISSIONER, MUNICIPAL ADMINISTRATION

  • Self Help Groups comprising neighbourhoods were organized on a large scale under UBSP (Urban Basic Services for the Poor) in many municipalities by liaising with the UNICEF.
  • Many workshops were conducted to strengthen the programme and for effectively providing convergence in the urban areas.
  • Network of NGOs in Kanniyakumari District was formed and Nalaoli Iyakkam was organized. The movement covered all the poor women in the rural areas and they played a vital role in channelizing the government programmes to the deserving families. It also helped in empowering the women by highlighting the importance of girl children, their education, health, etc. UNICEF provided funds for strengthening the women groups. Newsletter was brought out by the network for educating the members on various issues.

DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

  • Brought out a special literary issue (Ilakkiya Malar) when he was the Director, Information and Public Relations, improved the quality of Tamilarasu (government monthly magazine), introduced weekly wallpaper journal and the system of telecasting government news bulletins in satellite channels.
  • Identity cards were extended to reporters of weekly magazines to promote transparency in administration.
  • Advertisements were provided to weekly magazines for the first time to create awareness on government schemes.
  • Tamilarasu had special pages for the people to voice their problems and they were addressed by the respective officials.
  • Government awards for best contributions in entertainment industry were designed artistically.
  • Proposal for installing Thiruvalluvar statue was reframed to get the government approval and it facilitated in expediting the mammoth task. The government streamlined the release of funds

DISTRICT COLLECTOR, KANCHEEPURAM

  • As District Collector, Kancheepuram, he took an active part in abolishing child labour engaged in silk looms. It was done through surprise raids and by snapping notices on the offenders.
  • Organized moonlight schools for children above 14 years working in silk looms. Many of them are now graduates and have gained meaningful employment in government departments. Twelve schools were functioning in Kancheepuram. This model inspired a few philanthropists in Muthupettai to open such a school and bring out a quarterly magazine ‘Nilaoli’. Many students have passed out from the Moonlight Schools and have done even post-graduation in several disciplines. Nearly 30 students have got government jobs. Some of them are able to shine well in private assignments and self-employment by virtue of this experience.
  • Children released from silk looms were admitted in the schools and rehabilitation measures were taken successfully.
  • Gave a face-lift to the municipal bus stand, Kancheepuram and made it a model one for Class-I Municipalities purely by mobilizing funds from people’s representatives.
  • Improved the bus stands of Chengalpattu, Madhuranthagam, Walajapet, Thirukalukundram and Madippakkam.
  • Desilted the channels in Kancheepuram District and improved the storage of many important tanks of the districts. Desilted Puzhuthivakkam tank, the then drinking water reservoir for the town Panchayat. Hundreds of ponds in this district were desilted.
  • Panchayat Union schools were renovated with the general funds of the Union and the learning atmosphere was improved.
  • Conducted surprise raids in cinema houses and arranged for the return of excess money to the viewers. Stringent action was taken against the erring cinema house owners without sparing even the influential persons.
  • Sand smuggling network was broken and more than 300 lorries were impounded for illegal sand mining. Many licenses were cancelled and fine was imposed. Covering the sand with tarpaulin to prevent sand from spilling was made mandatory and fine was imposed on the delinquents. On the very first day of his joining, he cracked the sand mafia and impounded lorries carrying sand illegally. All the vehicles without tarpaulin were seized and find was imposed.
  • Encroachments were removed all over the district. Nearly 500 crore rupees worth of government land was recovered. Encroachments on tank bunds and channels were removed. Kancheepuram, Mamallapuram, Chengalpattu, Sunguvarchathram and Sriperumpudur were completely cleared off the encroachments. Improvements on the recovered region in the form of drainage and culverts were done to prevent re-encroachments.
  • Beef stalls operating illegally in Tambaram-Velacherry Road were removed and were converted into bus stops for vehicles plying to Velacherry. It prevented further encroachments on the same site.
  • Burial grounds were leveled and compound walls were constructed to prevent misuse.
  • Many temple tanks were renovated. Sthalasayana Perumal Temple at Mamallapuram was renovated after a long time and float festival was conducted. Rangaswamy Kulam and Poigai Alwar Kulam were renovated in Kancheepuram. Paintings from historic scenes and Kurinji, Mullai, Marudham, etc. were done on the compound walls constructed around Rangasamy Kulam. It was called Chithirai Kulam.
  • Tree plantation was done extensively in the district. Grown up trees were planted to ensure minimum maintenance and all of them survived to branch into beautiful trees.
  • Mass Contact Programmes were organized with a difference. Treatment camps for animals, sales counter for distribution of seeds, immunization for children were organized in the Mass Contact Venue. Distribution of tricycles to differently-abled, tool materials to washer men and barbers were done in the programme immediately after receiving the petitions. School buildings were sanctioned on the spot. Model fodder farms were raised in front of veterinary dispensaries. Medical cards were issued to milch animals for follow up action. This programme became a precursor to cattle protection scheme later.
  • Training for driving was imparted to the youth to cope with the demand arising in the State capital. All the trainees immediately got employment in travel agencies.
  • Joyful learning was introduced in the schools with the assistance of the UNICEF and teachers were trained effectively for making the learning process a great celebration.
  • Funds were mobilized to the tune of four crores and infrastructure was provided to government educational institutions. Awards were introduced at the district level for the best teachers from government schools.
  • Improvements to Arignar Anna Cancer Hospital were done by dovetailing funds from various sources. Gamma radio meter was provided by Kalpakkam atomic centre. An additional ward was constructed with the assistance of Infosys Foundation. A compound wall, mortuary and drinking water facilities were provided to the institute that caters to the poor people who come from the adjoining states.
  • Stone quarries were entrusted to self-help groups for quarrying and the members were able to cross poverty line with the income obtained from the quarry.
  • Survey for child labour was conducted with the financial assistance from the UNICEF.
  • Pattas were distributed in large scale to the underprivileged sections of the people and group houses were constructed in them.
  • Got awards for outstanding performance in small savings scheme and Flag Day collections.
  • Many bridges were constructed using the discarded Veeranam Project pipes at a low cost.
  • Community halls and sports stadium were renovated using the district small savings incentive funds.
  • He has liberated many bonded labour working in rice mills and quarries apart from providing rehabilitation package.
  • Construction of group houses for fishermen and underprivileged people was entrusted to the beneficiaries themselves where they were keen to take up the work and thereby improve the quality of construction.
  • Initiated the proposal for levying entertainment tax for amusement parks in Kancheepuram.
  • Restored the unique mango tree in Ekambaranathar Temple in Kanchepuram with the assistance of scientists from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.
  • The dream of the then Chief Minister Anna, a native of Kancheepuram was to widen the Ponnerikarai Road, install street lights and establish a boathouse in the lake. It was fulfilled by him during his stint as Collector by providing necessary funds. He got a government order for Rs.10 crores to make it a four lane when he was Secretary, Tourism and Culture Department.
  • Thirumukkudal had a low bridge and at the time of monsoon, the villages were entirely cut off from commutation. The people had to travel several miles to reach their destinations. He took efforts to construct a proper bridge and a long pending issue was resolved.

ADDITIONAL SECRETARY, CHIEF MINISTER’s SECRETARIAT

  • As Additional Secretary, Chief Minister’s Secretariat, he was responsible for Cattle Protection Scheme that envisaged organizing camps in villages to treat livestock.
  • Played a vital role in establishing Uzhavar Sandhais, implementing Cattle Protection Scheme, strengthening micro-credit and expediting issue of licenses for mini bus programme.
  • The bridges and roads constructed throughout the State were monitored effectively by field inspections and were completed on time.
  • The implementation of government programmes by various departments was monitored through field visits and a factual report on the state of affairs was furnished to the Chief Minister.
  • Usage of iodized salt was made compulsory in Noon Meal Centres by taking it to the notice of the Chief Minister.
  • Approach road to newly constructed bridges were laid expeditiously by relaxing the norms for acquisition of wetlands by the District Collectors.
  • Monitored dispatch of old age pensions and were positively delivered before the 10th day of the month.

SECRETARY, INFORMATION AND TOURISM DEPARTMENT

  • As Secretary, Information and Tourism, he introduced the system of honouring VIPs with books instead of shawls.
  • Introduced the system of issuing press releases through e-mail.

SECRETARY, TOURISM AND CULTURE DEPARTMENT

  • As Secretary, Tourism and Culture Department, he introduced the concept of cordial treatment of tourists under the caption ‘Virundhinar Pottruthum Virundhinar Pottruthum’.
  • Introduced Tourist Friendly Autos throughout the State.
  • Introduced Hop-on Hop-off buses in Chennai and ECR.
  • Introduced Summer Fair in Island Grounds. Organized special carnivals like Food Festival, Banana Festival and Book Fair for promoting domestic tourism.
  • Organized ‘India Dance Festival’ in Mamallpuram and scripted the inauguration programme entitled ‘Art Literary Travel’. It was a cultural carnival done with sponsorship and was done by music director Bharadhwaj. Artistes from other states participated in the festival on exchange basis. Folk artistes were given equal share in the festival and it gave a boost for native talents.
  • A Coffee Table Book ‘Tamil Nadu in Colours’ was brought out highlighting the tourist spots and cultural dimensions of Tamil Nadu. It had paintings done by leading artists of Tamil Nadu. The commentaries in English, French, Japanese and German were provided for the benefit of the international tourists.
  • Tourism song was written and tuned for the first time in the State.
  • Adventure Tourism like paragliding, water sports, trekking, parasailing, etc. were introduced for the first time in the State.
  • The concept of improving Lesser Known Tourist Spots was introduced to improve destinations like Yelagiri, Valparai, Kolli Hills, Courtallam, etc. to improve their employment generation potential and to avoid ecological hazards due to overcrowding in popular tourist spots.
  • Eight national awards, one international award and nine private awards were secured by the Tourism Department during his tenure.
  • Sizable quantum of funds was received from Government of India to promote several tourist destinations in Tamil Nadu. Almost all the important tourist destinations got facelift during his tenure.
  • The properties of Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation were improved and the percentage of occupancy went up to 70 per cent.
  • Tamil Nadu Tourism came first in attracting foreign tourists at all India level.
  • A colourful annual calendar highlighting the dimensions of Tamil Nadu Tourism was brought out purely by sponsorship without government incurring a single rupee.
  • Medical Tourism was promoted on a large scale.
  • Eco-tourism policy was released for the first time in the State.
  • Eco-parks were created in Yelagiri and Thirupparankundram using Government of India funds.
  • Funds to the tune of Rs.36 crores were obtained from Government of India for developing Madurai-Rameswaram-Kanniyakumari Mega Circuit.
  • Roads around Meenakshi Temple were paved and vehicles were prohibited in that region. Battery operated vehicles were provided for senior citizens.
  • Highways Department allocated Rs.35 crores for Tourism Department to prioritize roads. Girivalam road in Thiruvannamalai, roads around Thiyageswarar Temple, Thiruvarur, alternate route to Kolli Hills were a few remarkable works done utilizing this facility.
  • The frontage of Arignar Anna Zoological Park was constructed by allocating Rs.3.25 crores.
  • Financial assistance from Asian Development Bank to the tune of Rs.500 crores was availed.
  • Training for guides was organized for the first time through Anna Institute of Management and licenses were issued for their practice.
  • Tourism Police was introduced in five major destinations to prevent crime and help tourists.
  • A Sculpture Park was created in Mamallapuram.
  • Mamallapuram Emerald Park was created and it is the only park in the entire township.
  • Publicity Campaigns were organized in a fullfledged manner both at abroad and upcountry.
  • Tourism Newsletter was introduced to improve the image of Tamil Nadu Tourism throughout the country.
  • Gold and Platinum cards were introduced to provide concession to regular clients and to improve occupancy.
  • Boathouses were improved. Water scooters and speed boats were purchased to provide thrilling experience for the youngsters. All lakes were desilted and beautified.
  • Village Tourism was introduced to educate the urban people on rural customs.
  • The welfare of the folk artistes was promoted by enrolling more members in the Welfare Board. Enrollment drive was initiated in all the districts by conducting special meetings. Pattas and musical instruments were distributed to them. Cultural festivals were organized to improve their livelihood.
  • Funds were obtained from Rural Development, Highways and Municipal Administration Departments to strengthen the tourism infrastructure.
  • Funds were obtained for establishing Butterfly Park in Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Vandalur.
  • Thousand Year Celebration of Brihadiswarar Temple was organized under his leadership. It improved the infrastructure of Thanjavur by providing parking lots, beautification, lighting and pavements.
  • Fine Arts College in Chennai was given a facelift by providing 1.8 crore rupees under the scheme for heritage buildings. Fine Arts College in Kumbakonam was given 50 lakh rupees for constructing an art gallery. The students of Kumbakonam College painted 100 scenes from the history of Cholas and was exhibited in the Thousandth Year Celebration of Brihadeeswarar Temple.

SECRETARY, ENVIRONMENT AND FOREST DEPARTMENT

  • Scholarship for the wards of Rangers, Guards and Foresters was introduced by getting approval from the government.
  • The services of nearly 800 Rangers was regularized and the issue was pending for nearly 22 years.
  • An officers’ mess for Indian Forest Service officials was sanctioned by his efforts.
  • Auctioning of sandalwood and red sanders was done by sorting out the difficulties and sizeable income was earned for the government exchequer.

PRINCIPAL SECRETARY, PERSONNEL & ADMINISTRATIVE DEPARTMENT

  • Counseling system was introduced for the district training of Under Secretaries and Section Officers.
  • Inspection Cell was strengthened by providing official vehicles.
  • Infrastructure to Anna Institute of Management was improved. Similarly, the A&B Training Institute was also renovated.
  • Honorarium for the guest faculty was raised to attract talented persons from various walks of life.
  • The huge backlog of officials to be trained was cleared by organizing special training centres in Police Training Schools and the problem of not declaring probation was solved.

DIRECTOR GENERAL (TRAINING) AND DIRECTOR, ANNA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT

  • While serving as Director General (Training) and Director, Anna Institute of Management, funds to the tune of Rs.36.23 crores were obtained from the government for the renovation of Civil Services Training Institute, Bhavanisagar.
  • All India Civil Services Coaching Institute was newly constructed at Greenways Road at a cost of Rs.10.56 crores. A self sufficient institute with all facilities could improve the number of candidates qualifying for civil services. The food cost was increased from Rs.700 to 2000 per person. Stipend was provided to candidates taking up mains examination.
  • Regional Training Centres were established in Salem, Madurai and Trichy. These centres improved the quality of training imparted to government officials.
  • Special trainings like Litigation Management were organized to avoid unnecessary litigation.
  • Training to the officials of Indian Trade Service and Indian Customs and Central Excise was organized for the first time.

PRINCIPAL SECRETARY/COMMISSIONER OF ECONOMICS AND STATISTICS

  • The Department of Economics and Statistics was gradually changed from data provider to data analysing agency.
  • Data collection was made digital from paper base collection. Department started reaching out to academic agencies, line departments, external agencies and public.
  • Counselling system was introduced for transfers and efforts were made to make administration transparent.
  • Cleanliness Index survey was introduced for the first time in collaboration with State Planning Commission and Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.
  • Special Surveys were initiated in the districts on topics of special economic importance.
  • New Panel Surveys (Tamil Nadu House Panel Survey and Elderly Population Survey) were introduced for the first time in the state.
  • Data Analytics Unit was set up for the first time in the department.
  • Training wing was strengthened to organize more structured programmes for the officials in the State.
  • New training programmes on litigation management and office procedures were introduced.
  • National Statistics Day was celebrated every year..
  • Undertook field visits and interacted with the District Collectors and other district level officials for the improvement of statistical system of the State.
  • Personally supervised Crop Cutting Experiments.

PRINCIPAL SECRETARY/DIRECTOR, ENTREPRENEUR DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION INSTITUTE

  • Played a role in finalizing the Start-up and Innovation Policy of Tamil Nadu.
  • Exclusive certificate course on entrepreneurship was developed in association with Tamil Nadu Open University.
  • Student Awareness Programme for Government Arts and Science Colleges was introduced throughout the State.
  • The fund position of EDII was improved.
  • Two Start-up Ulas to learn from practitioners was done.
  • Eight progressive farmers were taken to Fragrance and Flavour Development Centre, Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh for a 3-day training programme and related workshops were organized.
  • Study reports on women entrepreneurs in Tamil Nadu, MSME Cluster Studies were done.
  • Leadership course for Incubation Managers was organized.

ADDITIONAL CHIEF SECRETARY TO GOVT/DIRECTOR GENERAL (TRAINING)/DIRECTOR, ANNA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT

The cash prize of Rs.2.00 lakhs was donated to the Mylapore Adi Dravidar Welfare Hostel for erecting a OR WO water plant.

Personal contribution[edit]

  • During aftermath of Tsunami 2004, he co-ordinated with Mysore Citizens Forum and renovated the village Mudaliarkuppam which was already adopted by him when he was Additional Collector, South Arcot District. The Forum constructed houses at a cost of Rs.4.5 crores. The biggest houses in the State for fishermen after tsunami were done by MCF under his guidance. The village was named after him.
  • He has motivated many students on social cause by addressing more than 2000 gatherings.
  • Student motivation programmes organized by Dina Thanthi, Dinamalar, Dinamani and The Hindu were attended and guidance was provided to the students.
  • A programme for chiseling youth was organized by Kumudham weekly in 20 colleges using his services for giving inspiring speech.
  • He has donated large number of books to schools and village libraries.
  • His book on Civil Services Preparation gave an impetus in motivating the students of Tamil Nadu and many who have succeeded after 1995 were influenced by his writings on competitive examinations.
  • He is contributing a special programme ‘Kalloori Kalangal’ in Podhigai TV. This is for shaping the college students towards a meaningful cause. So far 500 programmes have been telecast. Each episode runs to half-an-hour.
  • He has authored 102 books both in English and Tamil to educate various sections of people. His writing covers different genre ranging from facts to fiction.
  • He has personally guided more than 100 candidates who have successfully gained entry into civil services.
  • Nearly 50 persons have done their doctorate on his works.
  • He personally does counseling to people who come to him for various problems.
  • Special programmes for educating auto drivers on character building and evils of alcoholism are conducted by him with the assistance of Annamalai University Alumini Association.
  • He has contributed his royalty to Moon Light Schools and Adyar Cancer Hospital apart from continuously mobilizing support for these noble causes. He has personally contributed funds for flood relief work at Mysore as a reciprocation for the Mudhaliarkuppam Project.
