Iranian Cheetah Society (ICS) (Persian: انجمن یوزپلنگ ایرانی‎) is Iran's oldest wildlife conservation NGO established in 2001. Most conservation activities are focused on Asiatic Cheetah as the country's most known and flagship species[1].

Missions[edit]

Iranian Cheetah Society indicates that the society studies the ecology and status of large carnivores through an ecosystem-based approach to raise public awareness on the large Iranian carnivores. the ultimate goal is to reduce human-large carnivores' conflicts via implementing socio-economic plans and conserving the large carnivores in their natural habitats, primarily through public participation.


Honors[edit]

The society received the Iranian National Environment Award two times in 2017 and 2005. Also, ICS received the overall winner of the research categories and rare species, BBC Wildlife camera-trap competition (2014), UK[2] and the Future for Nature Award (2009), Netherlands[3] In 2006, their CEO became won the Future Conservationist Award (2006)in the UK from Sir David Attenborough.


Imapct[edit]

Iranian Cheetah Society (ICS) is not only focused on habitat conservation, but also on raising public awareness about wildlife conservation. In 2007, ICS proposed August 31th as the Iranian Cheetah Conservation Day[4]. Since then, this day was a key event to raise awareness about Asiatic Cheetah around the country. ICS is responsible to monitor the cheetah population across the country[5][6][7]. Purchasing pastures for conservation[8], Equipping rangers, managing water sources in arid areas[9] are other key activities of ICS.
