Irdeto is a Dutch company that offers software security technology and cyber services. As of 2018, Irdeto’s business has five business units: media and entertainment [1] [2] gaming security, connected transport[3], connected spaces and other IoT[4] [5] security.

Founded in 1969 and headquartered in Hoofddorp, Irdeto owes its name to media-engineer and founder Pieter den Toonder. Irdeto is an aggregation of Ingenieur Den Toonder (Ir. being the Dutch title given to engineering graduates). The company is a subsidiary of the South-African multinational media group Naspers (JSE: NPN)[6] [7], which includes a wide-range of pay TV, internet, instant messaging, technology and publishing businesses. Irdeto has almost 1000 employees worldwide and sells products in more than 75 countries. It has over 15 offices worldwide.

Irdeto’s customers include pay media operators (cable, satellite, telco/mobile, terrestrial), OTT service providers, studios, broadcasters and other content owners, sports rights holders and programmers. As well as operators of connected or software-based platforms in industries like connected transport, connected spaces and IoT connected industries.

In January 2018, Irdeto acquired Denuvo[8], an anti-tamper technology and digital rights management (DRM) scheme which provides anti-piracy and anti-cheat solutions for games on desktop, mobile, console and VR devices thereby expanding its business to the gaming industry.
