"Is This the Real You?" is a song by the American rock band Sevendust. It was released on January 29, 2026, as a promotional single from their fifteenth studio album, One.[1]

Recording and composition

The song was written during the initial creative sessions for the album, which began in early 2025 at the farmhouse of Lajon Witherspoon[2], and was officially recorded at Studio Barbarosa in Gotha, Florida, in the fall of 2025.[3] It was produced by the band’s longtime collaborator Michael "Elvis" Baskette, who also handled the mixing. The engineering for the track was provided by Jef Moll and Josh Saldate.[4]

Witherspoon described the song as having a more "old-school soulful" feel and said it was written spontaneously during a studio session with guitarist John Connolly. According to Witherspoon, the track was not originally intended for the album, but after Connolly played the music, he improvised vocals on the spot, which were ultimately kept for the final recording.[5]

John Connolly characterized the composition as "honest, natural, and pure," stating:

"If you really want to know what Sevendust sounds like in 2026, 'Is This The Real You?' gives you a good idea."[6]

Music video

An animated music video directed by Paul Ribera was released alongside the single.[7] The video features a "sharply dressed character" who possesses the ability to compel others into actions they would not normally take, forcing them to confront hidden aspects of their personalities. The visual narrative transitions through dramatic panel-style zooms, culminating in a "dark, devilish finale" that mirrors the song's tension.[8]

Live performance

Sevendust performed the song live for the first time on January 27, 2026, two days prior to its official studio release. The debut performance took place at the PreZero Arena Gliwice in Gliwice, Poland.[9] Vocalist Lajon Witherspoon introduced the track to the Polish audience as "a gift from the family to you", making it the first time the song was heard by the public.[10]
