Sheikh Isa bin Nahyan Al Nahyan was a leader of the Bani Yas tribe. He was the father of Sheikh Dhiyab bin Isa Al Nahyan, the founder of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Life[edit]
Isa Al Nahyan succeeded his father, Nahyan Al Nahyan, as the Sheikh of the Bani Yas tribe based in Liwa Oasis. His grandson, Shakhbut, would later move the tribe to the island of Abu Dhabi and set up a village there. He was the last Bedouin leader of the tribe and the penultimate leader to be based in Liwa.[1] He died in 1761, and was succeeded by his son, Dhiyab bin Isa Al Nahyan, the first Emir of Abu Dhabi.
History[edit]
In the 17th and early 18th centuries, the people of the Bani Yas tribe lived as Bedouins in remote locations in the Middle East. By the 1750s, the tribe had fully moved to the prosperous and easily habitable Liwa Oasis. Following the death of Isa Al Nahyan in 1761, his son, Dhiyab bin Isa, ordered his own son, Shakhbut bin Dhiyab, to track and hunt down a gazelle. This resulted in the construction of a village on Abu Dhabi island and the founding of the Emirate.[1]
