Isaac Herbst (born February 18, 2002) is an American fencer.[1] In 2018 he won a bronze medal in the 2018 Youth Olympic mixed teams, and in 2019 Herbst won a silver medal at the 2019 Junior World Fencing Championships Teams.

Early and personal life[edit]

Herbst was born in Houston, Texas, to Jason Herbst and Yolanda Movsessian, and resides in Houston.[2] As of November 2018 he was a junior at Memorial High School (Class of 2020) in Hedwig Village, Texas.[3][2] He is 5' 10", and weighs 168 pounds.[2]

Fencing career[edit]

Herbst trains at Alliance Fencing Academy.[3]

In November 2017 he won the Espoo Cadet Men's Épée in Espoo, Finland.[4]

In October 2018 Herbst won the ECC Fencing tournament "Trofeo Dario Codarin" in Klagenfurt, Austria, in the male épée category.[5][6]

In October 2018 he won a bronze medal in the 2018 Youth Olympic mixed teams in Buenos Aries, Argentina, at which Herbst also competed in boys' épée.[3][1][7][8][9]

In November 2018 Herbst won a silver medal at the Bonn Cadet European Cup.[10] It was his fourth European Cup podium finish in a row, going back to a year prior.[10] As of November 2018 he ranked No. 1 in both the USA Fencing Men's Épée Cadet Team Point Standings, and the Cadet European Fencing Standings.[10]

In March 2019 he won a bronze medal at the Zone Championships in Bogota, Colombia.[8]

In April 2019 Herbst won a silver medal at the 2019 Junior World Fencing Championships Teams, in Toruń, Poland.[1][8]
