Ismael Alexander Cornejo Meléndez (born 11 March 1989) is a Salvadoran football referee. He has been officiating in the Primera División de El Salvador since 2013 and has been listed as a full international referee for FIFA and CONCACAF since 2016.
Refereeing career
Cornejo began his refereeing career in the regional youth development leagues of El Salvador before being promoted to the top-flight Primera División de El Salvador in 2013.[1]
In 2016, Cornejo was appointed to the FIFA International Referees List. Under CONCACAF, he has regularly officiated high-stakes fixtures in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, CONCACAF Nations League, CONCACAF Central American Cup, and FIFA World Cup qualifiers across North and Central America.[2]
Domestically, Cornejo is considered one of El Salvador's top referees, frequently appointed to officiate final matches and high-profile rivalries in the Primera División involving major clubs like C.D. FAS, Alianza F.C., and C.D. Águila.
Outside refereeing
Outside of refereeing, Cornejo is a physical education educator and sports administrator in San Salvador. He actively participates in community sports programs and grassroots refereeing development initiatives supported by the Salvadoran Football Federation (FESFUT).[citation needed]
