Mass State Lottery
Mass State Lottery is an American crime–horror comedy film written and directed by Jay Karales (also known as LowRes Wünderbred), and produced by Forgotten Genres. The film stars Karales alongside Hans Lam Barboza, Nicholas Goroff, Yuna Kim, Sheila Ball, Austin Wright, and Buddy Duress in his final film role.[1][2]

Production
Principal photography occurred from early 2020 through January 2023, with filming locations spanning Queens and Manhattan (New York City), Boston and Quincy (Massachusetts), and Seoul (South Korea). The film was developed through Forgotten Genres and draws heavily from low-budget, experimental filmmaking practices.[2]
Music and Sound Design
The musical score is composed by Grammy-nominated musician Jake Fields, accompanied by sound design from Bill Jobs. The soundtrack features a diverse array of artists, including Grim, The Orwells, Lil Soda Boi, Kid Polaroid, Cramped Skunkman, and Reflexmachine.[2]
Release
According to IMDb, Mass State Lottery premiered on March 5, 2025, in the United States—in New York City—followed by a screening on March 30, 2025, at the Seoul Extreme Film Festival in South Korea. The film was subsequently released in Italy on April 18, 2025.[3]
Passing of Buddy Duress
Actor Buddy Duress, who portrayed Ivan Amari in Mass State Lottery, died in November 2023 at the age of 38. His death was confirmed in February 2024 by his brother, Christopher Stathis. Duress was best known for his breakout role in the Safdie brothers’ Good Time (2017) and later appearances in independent films, before his final performance in Mass State Lottery.[4]
