Issa Asad (born March 4, 1973) is the founder and CEO of wireless telecommunications providers Q Link Wireless and Hello Mobile.[1]
Early life and education
Asad was born in Dearborn, Michigan to a Palestinian family and raised in Michigan, New Mexico, Dallas, New York City, and Miami with 12 younger siblings.[2] He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Miami in 1995.[3]
Career
In 2000, Asad founded Reliable Telecard and co-founded IPrepay, telecommunications services providers that would offer prepaid long-distance and international phone cards through over 250,000 point of sale kiosks across the United States.[4] IPrepay was acquired by Blackstone in 2007.[5]
Asad founded Q Link Wireless in 2011, a wireless telecommunications provider of free mobile phones and cellular service for low-income individuals through the Lifeline program. Q Link Wireless is the third-largest provider of federally assisted wireless plans in the United States,[6] with more than two million customers and Lifeline licenses in 30 states.[7] The company, which employs more than 300 people in Dania Beach, Florida,[8] was named the fastest-growing technology company in the Miami metropolitan area by South Florida Business Journal.[9]
Asad founded Hello Mobile in April 2019, a prepaid wireless phone company for people who do not qualify for the Lifeline program.[10][8]
In May 2019, Asad was a leading contender to acquire Boost Mobile from Sprint Corporation for as much as $3 billion.[7][10]
