History[edit]
Istanbul Atatürk Anatolian High School started education in the Taksim St. Jean Baptiste School (Turkish: Fransız Jean Baptiste İlkokulu), (one of the first schools opened by the Frères), which was formerly connected to Frères des Écoles Chrétiennes, under the name of Taksim Ortaokulu (English: Taksim Secondary School) in the 1937-1938 academic year.[2]
In the 1939-1940 academic year, it was renamed Taksim Boys' High School, then Beyoğlu Boys' High School, and in 1954, upon the proposal of the "High School Alumni Association", it was renamed Atatürk Boys' High School.[3]
The classical-emphasized high school was transformed into a modern high school in the 1968-1969 academic year.[4][5]
In the 1996-1997 academic year, the school was transformed into a high school with foreign language emphasis and renamed Istanbul Atatürk High School.[6]
Former graduates enriched the school library by donating their own books to the school. In addition, the name of Ayhan Suskun, one of the graduates who modernized the library, was given to the library for his work.[4][7]
The Istanbul Atatürk High School Alumni Association organizes a traditional "Pilaf Day" every year in May.[8]
The school, was transformed into an Anatolian high school in the 2005-2006 academic year and renamed Istanbul Atatürk Anatolian High School.[9][10]
