Ivan Šnobl (* 24 January 1951 Prague) is Czech painter exhibiting in Czechia and abroad[1][2][3] .

Life[edit]

Ivan Šnobl was born in a family of a painter and teacher Jan Šnobl and a nurse Jiřina Šnoblová. His artist career started with studies on Corcoran Gallery of Art in United States (1967–1968). After his return to former Czechoslovakia he studied High School of Arts and Industrial Design in Prague (1968–1971, field of study: applied painting in architecture, scenography and commercials) and later Academy of fine Arts in Prague (1971–1976) where he studied in the studio of professor Karel Souček. During his studies he made a number of study trips to Africa (Ghana, Togo, Benin – 1974, 1975, 1976–1977). He had exhibitions in numerous galleries at home and abroad and his works are represented in National Gallery Prague, galeries in Litoměřice and Jičín, in private collections at home and abroad (e.g. Creditanstalt, Zürich Kosmos in Vienna, USA, Japan and others). Ivan Šnobl lived in Prague on Malá Strana and in recent years in the Kladno region. He has three children.

Work[edit]

During his study trips to Africa Ivan Šnobl created numerous paintings depicting local people and their daily life situations. The press[4][5] especially mention the extraordinary use of colors. Ivan Šnobl has his atelier in Míšeňská street on Malá Strana in Prague and his a great admirer of Prague and the architecture of its historical center. He has created numerous paintings of original details of local streets and houses (some of them are still shown in a restaurant U Hrocha in Thunovská street). Throught his life he devoted himself to depictions of the city[6] and of the people[7][8][9][10][11] living in the city, the city's rush moments; the city is an unstoppable source of inspiration of ephemeral moments like randez-vous, movement, small talks, moments of stillness in the middle of a rush, observing of commercials etc. As oposed to that, his landscape painting is still, neutral, human-free. The abstract details reveal his relationship to the area of the city of Kladno where he lives now. In the last years he also experiments with Abstract art on bigger canvas.
