Ivan M. Illan (born June 17, 1974) is an American wealth management entrepreneur, financial advisor, and a bestselling author of two books. He is frequently quoted and published in financial media and is famous for founding “Aligne” – Wealth Preservation & Insurance Services, LLC.
Education
Illan has a BA in Philosophy and a BS in Finance from Boston College. He is a Certified Fund Specialist (CFS) from the Institute of Business & Finance.[1] He is also an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) from Fi360.[2][3][4][5]
Career
At the age of 11, Illan found his interest in the stock market and innovative investing strategies.[6] He started his career as the Regional Director at Nuveen Investment.[7] He later worked for Ming Consulting Group, Inc. as their Founder and Managing Director.[8] Later he founded Aligne, a New York and Los Angeles based wealth preservation & insurance service company and serves as its CIO.[9][10][11] The company is a 2019 Inc. 5000 Honoree.[12]
He is an official member of the Forbes Financial Council and continually contributes to the publishing of Finance related media.[13][14][15] Illan is also a member of CFA Society New York and CFA Society Los Angeles.[16] Since 2005, he has been affiliated with the LA-based MassMutual General Agency[7][17][18]and served as Vice President at Fisher Investments.[19]

Illan is the bestselling author of How to Hire (or Fire) Your Financial Advisor: Ten Simple Questions to Guide Decision Making (2015)[20] and Success as a Financial Advisor For Dummies (2018).[21][22]
He is an active contributor on Forbes[23] and an Elite Contributor at Equities.com.[24]
Media Recognition
Illan has been recognized as the Financial Times Top Financial Advisor and Investopedia Premier Advisor. He has also won the Five Star Wealth Management Award.[25] Illan is frequently interviewed on finance-related media on topics related to Capital Markets.[26]

Philanthropy
Ivan Illan has also worked with several non-profits. He has served as Board Chair at Step Up On Second, Inc.,[28] and in 2014, in addition to personal charitable donations, he secured a grant from MassMutual for Step Up.[29]
He has also served as a Leadership Circle Partner at Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, supporting contemporary and emerging visual and conceptual artists in Los Angeles.[30][31]
