The following is a list of unproduced Ivan Reitman projects in chronological order. During his extensive career, Canadian filmmaker Ivan Reitman has worked on several projects which never progressed beyond the pre-production stage under his direction. Some of these projects fell in development hell, were officially canceled, were in development limbo or would see life under a different production team.

1990s

The First Gentleman TV series

On February 16, 1994, Reitman was set to produce the one-hour comedy series The First Gentleman through his Northern Lights production company for CBS to distribute.[1]

comedic Wonder Woman film

On April 19, 1996, Reitman was producing a Wonder Woman film and possibly directing with Joel Cohen attached to write the screenplay and Warner Bros. would distribute instead of TriStar Pictures.[2]

Wish

On June 16, 1999, Reitman was set to direct David Stern’s script Wish with Steven Schwartz writing new songs for the movie and The Montecito Picture Company co-producing along with DreamWorks Pictures.[3] On June 28, 2000, Reitman chose to direct Evolution instead of Wish for DreamWorks.[4]

2000s

The Nature of Evil

On January 29, 2001, Reitman was in talks to produce Rob Cohen’s screenplay The Nature of Evil with his Montecito Picture Company partner Tom Pollock.[5] On February 27, 2002, Cohen got The Nature of Evil set up at Universal Pictures with Cohen directing his action-adventure-horror screenplay after The Fast and the Furious, Montecito Picture Company still attached to produce the movie.[6]

Aztec

On May 26, 2004, Reitman was set to produce Jeff Schaffer and Ted Humphrey’s action sport screenplay Aztec with his Montecito Picture Company partner Tom Pollock and DreamWorks Pictures set to distribute the film.[7]

Old School 2

On December 12, 2005, Reitman was set to produce Todd Phillips’ sequel to Old School for DreamWorks.[8]

Underage

On March 26, 2008, Reitman was set to produce Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber’s rom-com screenplay Underage with Montecito Pictures Company’s Tom Pollock, Ali Bell and Jeff Clifford producing the film and Cold Spring Pictures financing the production.[9]

I am My Family’s Secret

On November 2, 2009, Reitman was set to executive produce Demetri Martin’s comedy film I am My Family’s Secret, with Montecito Picture Company’s Tom Pollock, Ali Bell, and Joe Medjuck producing the film for Paramount Pictures to distribute.[10]

2010s

Monsters of the Midway

On March 10, 2010, Reitman was set to produce Jeff Lowell’s action comedy spec script “Monsters of the Midway,” with Montecito Picture Company’s Tom Pollock, Ali Bell, and Joe Medjuck co-producing the film with Film 360’s Daniel Rappaport & Ben Forkner.[11]

Field Trip

On May 17, 2010, Reitman was set to produce Jordan Cahan’s sci-fi adventure comedy “Field Trip,” with Tom Pollock and Joe Medjuck producing through Montecito Picture Company for Paramount Pictures to distribute.[12]

Camp Rules

On June 18, 2010, Reitman was set to produce the feature film adaptation of Jordan Roter’s novel Camp Rules, with Kirsten Smith set to direct and co-write the screenplay with Deanna Kizis, with Montecito Picture Company’s Tom Pollock & Ali Bell producing the film with Jason Blum for Paramount Pictures to distribute.[13]

Doc & Howie

On November 19, 2010, Reitman was set to produce the crime comedy “Doc & Howie,” Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick’s directorial debut after rewriting Steve Leff’s screenplay with Montecito Picture Company producing the film for Paramount Pictures to distribute the film.[14]

Big In China

On March 22, 2011, Reitman was set to produce & possibly direct the feature film adaptation of Alan Paul’s memoir “Big In China,” with Montecito Picture Company’s Tom Pollock & Ali Bell co-producing the film adaptation.[15]

Basterds

On June 14, 2011, Reitman was set to produce Justin Malen’s fraternal twins comedy spec script “Basterds,” with Montecito Picture Company’s Tom Pollock & Ali Bell co-producing the film adaptation with H2F’s Chris Cowles and Chris Fenton will be the film’s executive producer.[16]

Rockabye Baby

On July 25, 2011, Reitman was set to produce Chris Baldi’s Uncle Buck-like spec script “Rockabye Baby,” with Montecito Picture Company’s Tom Pollock & Joe Medjuck co-producing the film.[17]

Juliet

On September 8, 2011, Reitman was set to produce the feature film adaptation of Anne Fortier’s novel “Juliet,” with Chad & Dara Creasey writing the screenplay, James Mangold set to direct and co-produce the film with Cathy Konrad through Tree Line Films along with Montecito Picture Company’s Tom Pollock & Ali Bell for Paramount Pictures to distribute.[18]

Triplets

In 2012, Reitman was set to produce “Triplets,” the comedy sequel to Twins, with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito starring with Eddie Murphy, Ryan Dixon writing the screenplay based on a treatment from Dixon & Josh Gad, Montecito Picture Company’s Joe Medjuk, Tom Pollock and Ali Bell producing the film for Universal Pictures to distribute.[19][20] On September 14, 2021, Reitman was set to direct & produce “Triplets,” with Dylan Dawson & Lucas Kavner writing the screenplay, Schwarzenegger & DeVito returning and Tracy Morgan replacing Murphy, with a production date of January 2022.[21] On May 16, 2023, Schwarzenegger revealed that “Triplets” was canceled by Jason Reitman in the wake of his father’s death.[22]

Dunderheads

On April 23, 2013, Reitman was set to produce the feature film adaptation of Paul Fleischman and David Roberts’s children’s book Dunderheads with Tyler Spindel attached to direct from Lona Williams’ screenplay, Montecito Pictures Company’s Tom Pollock, Ali Bell and Joe Medjuck producing the film and Paramount Pictures set to distribute the film.[23]

I Would Only Rob Banks for My Family

On November 20, 2014, Reitman was set to executive produce the feature film adaptation of Skip Hollandsworth’s article I Would Only Rob Banks for My Family, with Nick Hornby set to write the screenplay, Jason Reitman set to direct & executive produce with Helen Estabrook, Ali Bell, Tom Pollock, & Alex Plapinger and Fox Searchlight was set to distribute the film.[24]

The Rift Uprising

On February 23, 2016, Reitman was set to produce the feature film adaptation of Amy Foster’s sci-fi book The Rift Uprising with Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar and Ashley Zalta producing the film.[25]

Reverend Jeffrey Brown biopic

On July 20, 2016, Reitman was set to produce a biopic of Reverend Jeffrey Brown with Chadwick Boseman set to star, & co-write and co-produce the film with Logan Coles with Montecito Picture Company for Paramount Pictures to distribute.[26]

Summer of Love

On March 14, 2017, Reitman was set to direct & produce Summer of Love, a road-trip musical film with Shawn Mendes set to star, with Montecito Picture Company’s Joe Medjuk, Tom Pollock and Ali Bell producing the film.[27]

Ice Cold Heat

On April 17, 2018, Reitman was set to produce the action comedy “Ice Cold Heat,” with Kyle Newacheck set to direct Josh Kazdan and Eric Lord’s screenplay with Montecito Picture Company’s Joe Medjuk, Tom Pollock and Ali Bell for Lionsgate Films to distribute.[28]

Harry Potter film

On March 29, 2000, Reitman was offered to direct Harry Potter film series before Chris Columbus was hired.[29]
