Ivanka Das is an Indian Trans actress, dancer, choreographer, and model. She hails from Kolkata [1] well known for her participation in Indian Reality show Dance Deewane and Netflix series such as Bombay Begums.[2]
Personal life
Ivanka Das identifies herself as a transwoman and had a tough time getting her upbringing as both her parents died when she was a child.[3] She constantly battled the stigma of being a trans woman. Ivanka said as a part of an interview that she had to face too many obstacles in her life while living in Mumbai and Kolkata.[4] Coming from a conservative family, she proved debilitating on multiple fronts.[5][6]
Bio
Ivanka relocated to Delhi to become a choreographer[7], it was the same time she was accepting her true identify as a trans woman that helped her gain the empowerment for herself. She gave her the name Ivanka on her own[8], In 2010, she was caught in a terrible bout of jaundice, which soon brought the typhoid. She also became the victim of an extreme case of alopecia.[9] She lost her hair and in her fit of rage she shaved off her hair which unknowingly led to her first big break.[10]
Career
Ivanka's career started as a model where her distinctive features such as her bald head with her strong jawline and big effeminate eyes became a style Statement.[11] is also trained in Bharatnatyam, Belly, Jazz and other dance forms. In 2010, she headed to Mumbai and got her break in choreography apart from modelling.[12] She worked for the reality show called Dance Deewane both as a contestant and a dance choreographer. Her performance videos went viral across all social media platforms. [13] She started performing drag in Kitty Su and Kitty Ko[disambiguation needed].[14]
In 2016, she was featured in Vogue India. While she tried for TV, films and web series, she got a break in digital media getting the show Mandi where she played the character of Kareena.[15]
