Iyabo Masha
Iyabo Masha is a Nigerian economist and international development policy leader. She is the Director and Head of Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four, Group of 24[1] an intergovernmental body representing the largest emerging market and developing economies in global policy discussions.
Masha began her career at the Central Bank of Nigeria, where she rose to the position of Assistant Director of Research. Her career focused on monetary policy and operations, financial sector policies, reserve management, and research. She later worked for two decades at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC, negotiating IMF lending programs and developing non-program policies for emerging markets and developing economies in Africa and Asia.[2] Her work focused on macroeconomic and systemic risks, monetary and financial stability,[3] debt sustainability, trade, regional integration,[4] and long-run growth.[5] She also served as the IMF's resident representative for Sierra Leone.[6] In 1997/98, she was a Consultant at the World Bank Group Development Economics Group, serving as a member of the research team of the World Development Report 1998-1999.[7]
From 2019 to 2022, she served as Economic Adviser to the President of Nigeria and as a member of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC)[8] providing leadership for the Council's work on global economic spillovers, financial and capital markets, and sustainable development policies.
She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from American University, Washington, D.C. In 2025, Masha was named a Distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES).[9]
