J.D. Young Bridge

The J.D. Young Bridge over the Manatee River[where?] was built in 1980. This twin-span bridge is unusual in that despite both bridges being built at the same time, the two bridges follow two different types of beam bridge construction. The western bridge, which carries southbound traffic, is a concrete girder bridge similar in design to the Hernando de Soto Bridge downstream. The eastern bridge, which carries northbound traffic, is a concrete stringer bridge that has significant visual differences with the girder bridge, even though the structure ultimately functions in a similar manner.
