Jason Pearl , better known by his stage-name JP Tha Hustler, is an American rapper, songwriter, producer, & record label owner from Los Angeles, California.

Biography[edit]

JP Tha Hustler began his professional music career in 2001, producing for various westcoast rap acts including horror-rap pioneer Insane Poetry, as well as Billboard charting Southern Rap / Hick-Hop artist Po' White Trash (PWT) aka Roy Dee, and doubled as the keyboardist for his Trailer Park Symphony band.

In November 2000, he moved from Los Angeles to Houston to produced nine tracks on PWT's debut album "Po' Like Dis," which charted on Billboard's top 10 Rap Singles in September 2001 with the song "Po Punch." One of the songs produced by JP Tha Hustler for the album was called "Creepin" and featured Tameka_Cottle from the R&B group Xscape. A video for the single was shot in Atlanta, GA with a Dukes of Hazzard theme, featuring the General Lee. The video was submitted to MTV, but it was rejected as executives told the artist and his management that they already had two other white southern rap artists in video rotation with similar themes and imagery. Those artists were Bubba_Sparxxx and Tow Down. Once it was clear that MTV nor Commercial Radio was going to give a push to Po' White Trash, his label and management shelved his project and ceased any further promotion of the album or the artist. Diddy was quoted as stating in 2001 that his "Hillbilly Rap" would never sell. As a side note, Eric Diep with Complex deemed "Po' White Trash" to be one of the top 120 worst Rapper names of all time. Complex also named the album cover for "Po' Like Dis" one of the most ridiculous covers created by graphic arts company Pen and Pixel.

In May 2001, JP Tha Hustler moved from Houston, TX back to the San Fernando Valley in California, where he grew up. Shortly thereafter, in July 2001, he met Andrew Holiman, frontman for the westcoast horror-rap group Insane Poetry, and together they formed the music label Grim Reality Entertainment. The initial arrangement was as a producer/artist group collectively known as the new incarnation of the group "Insane Poetry." They also agreed to be equal co-owners of the label. Together they released the albums Faith_in_Chaos_(Book_of_Revelations) (2003) and Fallen_from_Grace(2007).

In December 2010, Andrew Holiman (then going by the moniker "Insane Poetry" by himself), moved to Denver, Colorado and joined the Horrorcore label Lyrikal Snuff Productionz as an artist. In February 2011, JP Tha Hustler took over full operations of Grim Reality Entertainment, signing a slew of new acts to the label, mostly from the Inland Empire area of California. These artists included Nekro_G, Slyzwicked, and several other smaller independent artists from the area. The next year he signed controversial Russian Horrorcore / Political female artist MC Val, who rose to fame in 2014 for speaking out against the war in Ukraine with the songs / music videos "We Will Never Be Brothers," "The Dead Have Not Forgotton," "Exit Through The Chimney" and "Euromaiden."

[15] [16] [17] [18] [19]

In 2013, Grim Reality Entertainment was recognized by the publication Inland Empire Weekly as the Best Independent Record Label.

[20]

In 2017, JP Tha Hustler signed to Lyrikal Snuff Productionz (the same label Insane Poetry signed to in 2010) as an artist and A&R director for the label. He currently releases music through both Grim Reality Entertainment and Lyrikal Snuff Productionz (LSP), with his darker material released through LSP, and his more commercial and traditional hip hop material released through Grim Reality Entertainment. In 2018, he teamed up again with Insane Poetry to release the group album "Team Guillotine." He also created a group with Grim Reality Entertainment artist Slyzwicked, collectively known as the "Beastmode Warriors."
