Jaap Frederiks

Jacob “Jaap” (J.R.Th.) Frederiks (28 May 1959) is a Dutch diplomat. He is currently the Chargé d'Affaires of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Suriname.[1]

Frederiks studied Modern European History at the University of Utrecht (BA & MA).

Frederiks started his career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1985 and served at the Netherlands Embassies in Tehran (Iran) and Bangkok (Thailand), the European Commission in Brussels (Belgium) and the Netherlands Permanent Representation at the United Nations in Geneva (Switzerland).[2] In addition, he held several positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague.[3]

Most prominently, he held the following positions:

·1999-2005 Deputy Director Environment and Energy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Hague[4]

·2005-2009 Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Vienna, Austria[5]

·2009-2013 Consul-General, Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Sydney, Australia[6]

·2013-2017 Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Tanzania[7]

·2017 Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Ukraine

In December 2017 Mr Frederiks was appointed Chargé d’Affaires to Suriname and took up his position mid-January 2018.[8]

Frederiks is married to Homeyra Moheb Khosravi.[9] The couple have to two children both of whom study in Canada.
