Jack Beers picture of Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas on November 24, 1963.

Ira Jefferson "Jack" Beers Jr. (born July 14, 1923, in Dallas, died February 17, 1975, in Dallas)[1] was an American press photographer who worked for The Dallas Morning News. Beers is best known for his photograph capturing Jack Ruby firing the fatal shot at Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas on November 24, 1963.

Jack Beers graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and joined the Air Force, where photography became a passion. After his military service, he was hired by The Dallas Times Herald, where he worked for two years, then moved to The Dallas Morning News.

In 2002 his daughter tells, "He was a perfectionist, enslaved to details and committed to showing up for assignments an hour early". He often told his little girl, "Luck is a product of being prepared."[2]

Beers was also called to testify in front of the Warren Commission.[3]

Beers colleague at The Dallas Times Herald, Robert H. Jackson, took an almost identical photo, but six-tenths of a second later, as Oswald screams in pain, that photo was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1964.
