Jack Hubley is an American wildlife nature expert, retired TV host, and current president of the Pennsylvania Falconry and Hawk Trust. For 30 years, he was WGAL's host and naturalist for the segments Call of the Outdoors and Wild Moments, until he retired in 2017. He is also known for being a master falconer of eagles, and an advocate for the natural wildlife in the Susquehanna Valley.[1]

Early life

Hubley grew up on Cherry Street in Lititz, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Lebanon Valley College, he explored an interest in wildlife, which would become his lifelong journey that he has great respect for.[2]

Career

From 1982 to 2000, Jack worked as a reporter and outdoors editor for Lancaster Farming.[3] In 1987, he went into television, joining WGAL and being named host of Call of the Outdoors after an audition when its previous host resigned.[4] In 1997, the format changed to a new title called Call of the Outdoors for Kids.[5] In 2000, it changed again, to Wild Moments, and the show became nationally syndicated, aired as a segment on Friday evenings on News 8 at 5:30.[6][7]

In Wild Moments, Hubley showed wildlife species native to the Susquehanna Valley, bringing some of the animals to WGAL's studios as special guests, while answering viewers' questions.[8] He also participated in presentations showing many birds and among other animals.[9][10][11]

In 2017, Hubley retired from WGAL after 30 years on-air entertaining viewers with many wildlife around the Susquehanna Valley, and WGAL News 8 looked back on Hubley's career and his plans.[12]

While retired from TV, Hubley continues to be president of the Pennsylvania Falconry and Hawk Trust and runs The Falconry Experience program.[13]
