Jack Roth is an American journalist, author, screenwriter, and filmmaker. His career has included magazine journalism, nonfiction writing, documentary filmmaking, and scripted film development.[1] He is the co-founder of Roth & Sumple Storytellers, a creative partnership with writer and filmmaker Jon Sumple focused on developing original scripted film projects.[2]
Roth previously co-founded the documentary production company j3FILMS, through which he produced and wrote films in the Extraordinary documentary series.[1]
Early life and education
Roth attended Boston University, where he studied business administration and communications and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1987. He later attended the University of Central Florida, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism in 1994.[3][4]
Career
Journalism and editing
Roth has worked as a journalist, magazine editor, writer, and communications professional. From 1998 to 2000, he served as an editor at Orlando Magazine, where his responsibilities included writing and editing departments and feature stories, managing freelance contributors, coordinating editorial projects, and assisting with community outreach.[3]
From 2002 to 2006, Roth wrote for Pegasus Magazine, the alumni publication of the University of Central Florida. His work included developing and managing feature stories, editing and fact-checking, and coordinating photography and other editorial elements.[3]
From 2003 to 2007, Roth served as editor of FM Magazine, a publication of the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce. He managed editorial operations and wrote and edited departments and feature stories.[3] During this period, his work received honors in the Florida Magazine Association's Charlie Awards, including recognition for the Focus On department in 2005, the public service feature The New Homeless in 2006, and the feature In The Business in 2007.[3]
Roth later served as a communications specialist for the YMCA of Central Florida from 2013 to 2015. He previously worked at Full Sail University from 2012 to 2013 as a career advisor for students and graduates in creative writing and new media journalism.[3]
From 2017 to 2018, Roth served as editor of i4 Business and SpaceCoast Business magazines, overseeing editorial content and planning and writing for the publications.[3] He has also worked as a contract writer for Orange County Government in Florida.[3]
Author
Roth is the author of nonfiction books dealing with unexplained phenomena and controversial historical subjects.[1][4]
His 2014 book Ghost Soldiers of Gettysburg examines reported paranormal experiences associated with the Battle of Gettysburg and theories concerning reported ghost phenomena.[1][4]
In Unknown Down (2016), Roth recounts U.S. Army veteran Bill Schroeder's account of events reportedly occurring in South Florida on March 31, 1967, involving unidentified flying objects, military personnel, and civilian witnesses.[1][4]
In 2022, Roth published Killing Kennedy: Exposing the Plot, the Cover-Up, and the Consequences, which examines the assassination of John F. Kennedy and presents arguments questioning the official account of the assassination.[1][4]
Roth has discussed Killing Kennedy in a number of media appearances. In November 2022, he was interviewed by author and researcher Richard M. Dolan about the book and Roth's interpretation of the Kennedy assassination.
Roth also appeared on The Charlie Kirk Show, where he discussed his arguments concerning the Kennedy assassination.[5]
In 2023, Roth appeared on Jesse Watters Primetime on Fox News to discuss Killing Kennedy and his views concerning the assassination.[6]
Documentary filmmaking
In 2010, Roth co-founded j3FILMS, a documentary production company whose work focuses on unexplained phenomena and mysteries.[1][3]
Roth produced and wrote Extraordinary: The Stan Romanek Story (2013), a documentary examining the claims of purported UFO experiencer Stan Romanek. The film became the first installment in the Extraordinary documentary series.[1]
He subsequently produced and wrote Extraordinary: The Seeding (2019) and Extraordinary: The Revelations (2021), continuing the series' exploration of claims involving UFOs and other unexplained phenomena.[1]
Roth & Sumple Storytellers
Roth later expanded his work into scripted storytelling through Roth & Sumple Storytellers, a creative partnership with longtime collaborator Jon Sumple. The partnership brings together their backgrounds in journalism, documentary filmmaking, research, and writing to develop original scripted projects.[2]
In 2024, Roth and Sumple began focusing on the development of scripted film projects. Their projects include Etta, Two Weeks, The Sluagh, and No Gentle Country.[2]
Etta is a historical project currently in development, with Roth's work on the project including historical research. The partnership has also completed scripts for Two Weeks, The Sluagh, and No Gentle Country.[2]
