Jack Rourke[edit]

Jack Rourke is an American psychic, author and media personality. His book The Rational Psychic, A Skeptic's Guide to Extraordinary Perception was published in hardcover on October 1st, 2012 by Sounds True.[1]

Early life[edit]

A fraternal twin Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Rourke had no childhood interest in psychic phenomena. He claims an awareness of his mind working in other than ordinary ways was realized after an empathetic near-death experience occurred upon the untimely death of this twin.[2]

Books[edit]

The Rational Psychic [2] is a semi-auto-biographical work that explains the origin of instinctual extrasensory perception and intuition. The spiritual web site the Daily OM writes, "The Rational Psychic begins with a story about a unique near death event the author experienced the moment his twin sister died. This heartwarming childhood tale is not meant to qualify Jack as a psychic. Instead, the author uses this story to teach readers that emotionally profound personal events are no reason to avoid rational investigation of one's personal paranormal experiences. Throughout The Rational Psychic, the author offers a detailed, thoughtful, and often surprising examination of seemingly supernatural and psychic events. Relying on first-hand experience and decades of research, he challenges everything commonly accepted about psychic and paranormal phenomena while weaving a compelling argument for the existence of extrasensory perception."[3]

The Rational Psychic debuted at number one on Amazon's occult & parapsychology category.[4] Dr. Andrew Nichols PhD, Director, American Institute of Parapsychology called The Rational Psychic, "comprehensive, provocative, and up-to-date, quite simply the best available introduction to psychic phenomena.” Reader response was largely positive based on Amazon reviews. [5] However, even among fans it was noted that the book was not for all readers. Particularly those seeking mystical interpretations of events that validate the existence of psychic phenomena across the board.

Commentary by Mr. Rourke also appears in the books Kids Who See Ghosts by Dr. Caron Goode[6] and What Wags the World - Tales of Conscious Awakening by Miriam Knight & Julie Clayton.[7]

Work[edit]

Rourke began his professional career in 1996 performing psychic readings by referral in Los Angeles, California. In 2006 he became the executive producer of the original Ghostfest[8] set on board the HMS Queen Mary docked in Long Beach, California. Soon after Jack provided annual predictions to the Associated Press.[9] Since then he has been a fairly consistent figure in the paranormal media space.

Beginning in 2006 Mr. Rourke also became the only psychic to conduct paranormal investigations with academic parapsychologist Dr. Barry E. Taff. On his personal web site Taff names Rourke as "perhaps the most talented psychic he has ever encountered".[10] Dr. Taff also wrote the forward to Mr. Rourke's book [11] and reports him to be a "true medical intuitive".[12]

Dr. Taff and Jack Rourke have been frequent collaborators. In 2007 Jack co-authored the 21c Psi Survey with academic parapsychologists Dr. Barry E. Taff PhD, Lloyd Auerbach MA and Dr. Andrew Nichols PhD of the esteemed American Institute of Parapsychology.[13] Lionsgate hired Rourke & Taff for a project titled Anatomy of a Haunting.[14] They appeared together in a special documentary inside the first season DVD release of The Mentalist called Cracking the Crystal Ball where Jack was depicted as a real-life psychic detective. [15] The duo again appeared together in the short film Mind Over Matter: The Truth About Telekinesis[16] which was a featurette inside the deluxe DVD edition of Friday the 13th part VII.

Rourke appeared on NBC's the Trisha Goddard Show[17] offerings New Years predictions for the year 2013.[18] FOX TV then hired Jack to appear with Lisa Williams[19] on episode 131 of the first season of the Ricki Lake show. [20] During his 2013 appearance on Ricki, Jack was asked to analyze the Cayce Anthony murder mystery. In 2017 Jack was featured as the top psychic in the United States by Russian State Media's Ren TV.[21] Following that, came recognition in 2018, as the top love and relationship psychic in the united States when Rourke was interviewed by Buzzfeed media as part of a dating documentary starring Aria Inthavong[22] called, I Tried Finding My Soulmate in 48 hours.[23]

News Media[edit]

CNN entertainment producer Lisa Respers-France interviewed Jack for the article Psychics See Magic in Michael Jackson's life to get his perspective on the passing of superstar Michael Jackson.[24] Five years later, in March 2014, the New York Post accused NBC's Today Show of "promoting psychic babble" for interviewing Long Island Medium's Theresa Caputo using CNN'S interview with Rourke as an example said style of journalism.[25]
