Domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris) |
The Jackabee (also written Jack-A-Bee[1]) is a dog crossbreed of a Jack Russell terrier and a beagle. Jackabees are now recognized by the International Designer Canine Registry (IDCR),[2] the American Canine Hybrid Club, and the International Canine Association.
Appearance[edit]
Being a recent pairing, genetic variation in the Jackabee population remains large, but many combine a beagle's skull and face with the body of a Jack Russell. For that reason, jackabees resemble a terrier with a beagle-like face. Jackabees generally have the beagle's large, floppy ears. Jackabees are most often tricolor and are a sturdy, athletic dog. [3]
Temperament and Behavior[edit]
Both Jack Russell Terriers and Beagles were raised as hunting companions. Therefore, it is very likely to get a hunting instinct. Jack-a-bees can be very vocal like Jack Russells, warning others with a bark if they sense unusual activity in the area.[4]
