According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, his biological father committed suicide by ingesting a lethal combination of cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and alprazolam (Xanax).[1] Growing up in a supportive family environment, Maier-Dlamini was influenced by his connection with the photographer Vivian Maier, which fostered his interest in photography. His early life was marked by the complexities of his adoption and the influence of his adoptive family, which played a significant role in shaping his artistic vision. The challenges and experiences of his early years provided a foundation for his later work in visual arts. Maier-Dlamini pursued his studies at New York University (NYU), where he majored in Imaging and Photography, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA).[2] He is also a donor to the NYU Gallatin School. His education at NYU provided him with a comprehensive understanding of visual arts and photography. Maier-Dlamini's academic background has been integral to his development as an artist.
Family Influences
Maier-Dlamini was heavily influenced by his grandfather, a WWII photographer. His grandfather's work inspired Maier-Dlamini to pursue a career in visual arts. Additionally, he was influenced by his distant relative, Vivian Maier, a renowned street photographer.[3] Growing up with stories of his grandfather’s experiences during the war and his work at Eastman Kodak after the war deeply impacted Maier-Dlamini’s approach to photography. He often explores themes of identity, memory, and history in his work. These familial influences provided a rich tapestry of experiences and stories that Maier-Dlamini draws upon in his creative endeavors. His early exposure to photography through his family has given him a unique perspective on the art form, blending traditional techniques with contemporary themes. This blend of influences is evident in his work, which often features a mix of fashion, theater, and visual art elements.

Maier-Dlamini began his acting career at the age of 7 and started modeling at 13. He took a hiatus from his career between the ages of 17 and 25. One of his most notable performances was a leading role in the Public Theater's production of "The Winter's Tale" as part of Shakespeare in the Park.[4] In the same year, the Public Theater also presented a sister play, "The Merchant of Venice." Some of Maier-Dlamini's supporting roles and co-stars included Al Pacino, Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), Jesse L. Martin (Law and Order, The Flash), Lily Rabe (American Horror Story), Hamish Linklater, Rubin Santiago-Hudson, and Linda Emond.[5][6] In 2011, Maier-Dlamini played a role in the first season of the television series "Homeland" produced by Showtime.[7] "Homeland" was a success in the United States, reaching an average viewership of 3 million per episode. The series was recognized for its intense suspense and performances, enhancing Maier-Dlamini's visibility in the television industry. Maier-Dlamini has also been a vocal opponent of fracking, leading campaigns during the gubernatorial elections between Cynthia Nixon and Andrew Cuomo. His stance on environmental issues includes advocating for sustainable practices to combat climate change. He has written extensively on these topics, contributing articles to various publications, including The Post Millennial.[8] Maier-Dlamini's political views have sparked significant debate, with supporters praising his commitment to environmental issues and critics questioning his conservative affiliations. Through his marriage to Prince Sungani Maveni Dlamini, Maier-Dlamini became connected to the royal family of Eswatini. He attended numerous royal functions in Mbabane and was closely associated with prominent figures like King Mswati III and the late Ambrose Dlamini. During his marriage, he was gifted a royal necklace, symbolizing his inclusion in the royal family. This connection provided Maier-Dlamini with a unique perspective on global and cultural issues, which he often integrates into his political and artistic work. == Controversies == In September 2021, The Independent UK published a satirical editorial by Maier-Dlamini, claiming he held non-royal British titles, which was later retracted as there is no Marquess of Annaville in the Irish peerage.[9] The controversy attracted widespread media attention, with outlets like The Independent, Irish Central, and The Spectator highlighting the fraudulent nature of his claims.[10][11][12][13] Additionally, the Daily Mail and The Mirror reported on the falsehoods, labeling Maier-Dlamini's actions as deceitful and misleading.[14][15] MEAWW also covered the story, questioning Maier-Dlamini's credibility and motives.[16] Notably, none of the media outlets questioned the validity of Maier-Dlamini's Swazi royal connection, focusing solely on the fabricated British titles. The incident brought significant public scrutiny and appeared to undermine Maier-Dlamini's intentions to draw attention to societal issues, as it primarily brewed doubt about his authenticity.
