Jacob Bevis

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Jacob Bevis is a resident of Hobart, Tasmania, who is well known as the host of the Facebook page The Bev Show, and its namesake weekly live stream, and his famous catchphrase "Woohoo, you beauty!".

Bevis is well known for being a dedicated, passionate follower of popular Australian sports such as Australian Rules Football, Cricket (in particular the Big Bash League), and horse racing. His support for the Western Bulldogs and Hobart Hurricanes is common knowledge among followers.

Bevis's online presence began in 2011 on a small YouTube channel called 'Mac Mania'. [1] The show lasted until 2014, but suffered from a lack of viewership, popularity, and difficulties surrounding the running of the show with fellow hosts from England. Following Mac Mania was Bevob5 Productions. This is often seen as an older version of The Bev Show (which was to follow), however it too struggled to gain a large following and uploads on the channel began to wane until a final post was made in early 2018.[2]

In 2016, Bevis began a Facebook live stream in the aftermath of the 2016 AFL Grand Final (won by the Bulldogs). As the weeks passed, Bevis began to amass a large contingent of followers. The name "The Bev Show" was devised,[3] and the show began to introduce dedicated segments such as 'Angry Bev', 'Ring somebody', and 'Bev's hero of the week'. Live streams would be broadcast weekly every Monday night, before making the switch to Sunday nights. Bevis went viral in January 2018, with a reaction video posted to Facebook after the Hurricanes secured an upset win in the BBL|07 semi final against the Perth Scorchers.[4] The video showcased Bevis in a sheer state of excitement and happiness, bouncing repeatedly on his bed in complete euphoria. This captured the attention of various media outlets. [5] Throughout 2018, Bevis introduced new videos to complement the weekly live streams. 'Bev's Footy Tips' were posted during the AFL season, which showcased Bevis listing his tips for each round of the season, while also kicking a goal and marking a footy as a humorous addition. Once the racing season began, a segment called 'Bev's horsey tips' was introduced. Both these segments were reduced to simple Facebook posts in 2019 which listed his tips without a video element. Another common feature of The Bev Show Facebook page are reaction videos. These are often after victories for the Bulldogs and Hurricanes, along with when related parcels arrive in the mail and are unboxed.

In early 2019, Bevis was the subject of a Snapchat controversy where screenshots of multiple inappropriate Snapchat posts were posted, supposedly by Bevis. Bevis took some time off from live streaming and social media during this time, until he felt comfortable to return to the screens.

Bevis is a boundary umpire, who frequently umpires in the Tasmanian State League. He has been appointed to two development league Grand Finals (in 2018 and 2019).[6]
