Jacob Culberson (1977 - present) is an American martial artist and the founder of Sentokan (戦闘館 Sentō-kan) Karate-Do.

Early life[edit]

After moving to Upstate New York, Jacob Culberson began practicing Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan at 6 years of age under the instruction of Yong Ki Hong and Hwang Kee, the renowned founder of Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan, in Middletown, New York, earning his black belt by the age of 9 and going on to win 1st place in sparing and 1st place in forms at the 1987 New York State 5th Tang Soo Do Championships. By 1989, Culberson had earned his 2nd degree black belt in Tang Soo Do. Later that year, Culberson moved to Santa Clara, California and began studying Shotokan Karate under Sensei Isao Wada, earning his black belt (Shodan) in less than two years and his 2nd degree (Nidan) in a little over three. During the years he practiced Shotokan Karate, Culberson had the great honor of meeting and training with Hirokazu Kanazawa at two different seminars. After moving to Castroville, California, Culberson went on to study study Taekwondo and Muay Thai Kickboxing simultaneously at two different schools. He earned his black belt in Taekwondo in one year. Leaving Taekwondo, Culberson devoted himself to Muay Thai Kickboxing and began training for amateur fights.
