Jacob Dudman (born 22 August 1997) is an English actor and director best known for BBC series 'The A List' and for voicing The Tenth Doctor and Eleventh Doctor in the Doctor Who: The Doctor Chronicles audio plays by Big Finish Productions.

Acting

Dudman is best known on British TV for his role as the male lead in BBC series 'The A List', which was released on BBC iPlayer as a boxset on 25th October 2018. The 13-part BBC drama draws on elements that made shows like Stranger Things and Riverdale successful. Speaking to BBC News, Dudman said: "I think the exciting thing for me was that in the script you could see it wasn't just a teen drama, it has a foothold in horror and rom-com, it's funny and it's dark - there's a lot of different layers to it,"[1].

Dudman portrays 'Dev', a 'token love interest'[2] between the show's two female leads. Speaking to Virgin Media, on his character: "Sometimes Dev needs to get off his high horse. He has this hero complex and likes to think he’s the nice guy. He often is, but he can get a bit ahead of himself, even though his heart’s in the right place."[3]

In September 2018 it was announced that Dudman will be joining the cast of Medici Season Three, a British-Italian production for Netflix/RAI Uno due for release 2019.

Dudman is also recognised for his portrayal of The Doctor in BBC Audio & Big Finish Productions 'Doctor Who: The Doctor Chronicles', a series of four-part boxsets set during the David Tennant and Matt Smith eras of the show. Upon 'The Tenth Doctor Chronicles' release in April 2018, it was said that Dudman's 'ability to narrate and carry each story is effortless'[4].

In an interview with Benjamin Cook for Doctor Who Magazine, an overwhelmed Dudman admitted: “It’s barely sunk in that this is my job”[5].

'The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles' received similar praise. The boxset, produced by Big Finish regular Scott Handcock, was welcomed by a four-star review on CultBox: "In both his narrator’s role and as the Doctor, Jacob Dudman delivers in spades – doubtless thanks to the guiding hand of director Helen Goldwyn – if his Tennant is good, then his Smith is eerily spot-on, and he gives life to a host of diverse ancillary characters as well."[6]

Dudman has also lent his vocal talents to The War Master, 'Doctor Who: The Third Doctor Adventures', and is the current voice of the UK Hazard Perception Test.

Involvement with Save the Rhino

"Save The Rhino Vietnam" was a Documentary film and T-shirt campaign[7] launched by Dudman, actor Paul Blackthorne and footballer Aaron Ramsey, aiming to raise awareness on the Rhino poaching crisis.

The campaign had a social media outreach of over 100 million, with support from the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Mesut Ozil, Matt Smith, Stephen Amell, John Barrowman, Alex Kingston, Karen Gillan and Aamir Khan to name a few, and raised over $20,000[8]

In May 2016, Dudman and Blackthorne journeyed over to Vietnam with the charity Save The Rhino International  in the hope of understanding why Rhino Horn has become such a fashion in east asian cultures, and how we can prevent Rhino from becoming extinct.

The film, with the tagline “Journey to the edge of extinction”, follows Dudman and Blackthorne on their quest for answers. Using hidden cameras, they went undercover to expose ‘Nhi Khe’ village for it’s Ivory and Rhino Horn market, which was shut down when the footage was reviewed by the Vietnamese Government.

In an Interview, Dudman stated he hoped the film would “educate people and encourage them to take action,”[9] emphasising how he isn’t just referring to the Rhino poaching: “The important thing with issues like this is to keep talking about them. It’s important to keep the momentum up.”[10]

YouTube

In May 2014, Dudman launched his YouTube channel "Jake Dudman". Overnight his first video “Matt Smith Impression” went viral, being featured in the UK RadioTimes[11], Digital Spy[12] and Buzzfeed[13]. The RadioTimes raved in an article, “prepare for chills up the spine as you experience young impressionist Jake…”[11], whilst a journalist at The Nerdist wrote “Isn’t the impersonation amazing? I’m floored by how he not only mimics Smith’s voice but also the inflection and pauses. It’s so over the top good that it’s almost like he’s lip-syncing.”[14] The attention led Dudman’s video to be one of the top trending videos in the UK that week.

Since then, Dudman’s channel- featuring sketches, impressions, short films and an original comedy song- has amassed over 4 million views. His most watched piece, “40 Impressions Sing Hamilton”, flaunts over 1.2 million hits (as of 29/08/2018) , whilst collaborations with Jon Culshaw on 'The Solo Jedi' and 'The Great Curator' have found themselves popular amongst Star Wars and Doctor Who fans.

As of August 2018, Dudman's channel has 85,000 subscribers.
