Jacob O. Everett or JE is a Houston-based singer and songwriter. He is originally from Nigeria. He mainly sings Pop but regularly challenges himself in other genres. The “O” in his name stands for the Delta-region-based Nigerian-Itsekiri word “Okpetoritse,” which means “Thanks Be To God.” His last name “Everett” originates from his British great-grandfather and the family Patriarch in Nigeria, Chief Jacob Everett of the Warri Kingdom, from whom he got his first name.
Music Career
Jacob Everett joined the music industry following a breakthrough on August 27, 2016, when he returned home after a long day working as a massage therapist and overheard his youngest brother, “Ernest,” singing very loudly with some interesting tunes.
He peeked into Ernest’s room to find him with headphones on and working on a laptop with a dozen scrap papers scattered all over the floor. Incidentally, Ernest was also a prolific writer of music lyrics. In just a few hours, Jacob learned the basics of making tunes and produced the rudiments of his first song and choruses for six others.
Jacob’s inspiration hasn’t ended there and has grown exponentially ever since, but his family tradition of strictly pursuing a professional career in order to keep the family financially stable has sometimes affected his decision to be a musician.
Before his breakthrough day, his favorite pastime was and has always been listening to a wide range of music genres. He liked his father’s taste in classical music and specifically enjoyed Chopin. He also frequently listened to Hip Hop, Pop, and Reggae.
The success of his music in “Cape Deum” can be attributed to the culture and history of Nigeria, his birthplace. It is said that Nigerian genes are full of artistic talent.
Massage Therapist
He was a licensed massage therapist and practiced from 2013 to 2020 until Covid-19 hit.
Academic Life
Jacob Everett attended Alief Hastings High School and the Texas Southern University. He then went to the Police academy at Houston Community College and studied Massage Therapy in 2012.
Personal Life
He is the first among the three brothers in his family to come to Houston. He emigrated to Houston with his mother in 2003 and has lived there ever since. He loves fashion, food, and life itself. He has a Fitness & Fashion brand called Jacob Couture. He is a musician; earlier generations were professionals like his grandfather, who was an accountant, and his father, who is a working medical doctor.
