Jacques de Falaise

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Jacques de Falaise (born Jacques Simon), born in 1754 near Falaise and died in 1825 in Paris, was a French quarry worker who became famous for his eating and ingestion capabilities in 16th century France. Originally hired in 1816 by the illusionist Louis Comte to perform in his Parisian theatre, he earned a reputation for his "polyphagic experiences", during which he would swallow nuts, smoking pipes, whole eggs, flowers (including the stem), watches, and live animals such as mice, sparrows, eels, and crayfish. He eventually had to stop his career due to gastroenteritis, and committed suicide in 1825. His autopsy was an object of interest across Europe, as it was discovered that Jacques de Falaise did not have exceptional organs or appetite, but rather submitted himself to said "polyphagic experiences" as a means of attaining stardom.[1]
