Jagath is a ritual / industrial music act from Perm, Russia.
They create their music at abandoned industrial locations - the bottom of a moist underground sewer shaft and inside huge hollow oil tanks. They use simple, mostly hand-crafted instruments, found objects and voices. Locally known for their extreme photos and videos, they use flamethrowers, sparks and fire during their performances - "to keep from freezing to death". They do it to share their vision of "decaying post-industrial age, to unleash the spirit of deep beyond-world and unveil life in the abyss".[1]
Jagath release their music on various labels including Cold Spring and Black Mara[2] and play live at local venues and festivals, such as Perm Wave and Solar Systo. They also played live at historical locations including Red Triangle historical site (1906) and Blacksmith shop in Perm (1916) to draw some attention to the ruined objects.
During production of album Svapna, Jagath opened "a portal to another world" inside an abandoned Soviet-era swamp drain near a residential building in the Zakamsk suburb of Perm (58°00′44″N 55°57′44″E / 58.0122°N 55.9623°E
). Consequent land art video for track Svapna was acquired by Perm Museum of Contemporary Art to its collection[3]. Jagath also performed live at Nigredo[4] exhibition there.
