Jake Brasch
Jake Brasch is an American playwright, composer, and performer, best known for the play The Reservoir and for co-creating the musical-comedy duo American Sing-Song (A.S.S.) with playwright Nadja Leonhard-Hooper. Their work often explores addiction, recovery, family, and queer identity through humor.
Brasch’s play The Reservoir was produced by four of the country's most prominent regional theatres. In 2025 a co-production was presented between the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Alliance Theatre, and Geffen Playhouse, directed by Shelley Butler. The production was noted for its blend of generational storytelling and recovery themes.[1][2][3] The play had a subsequent production at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in 2025[4] and will be presented Off-Broadway by the Atlantic Theater Company in association with Ensemble Studio Theatre.[5]
Brasch is a recipient of Vineyard Theatre’s Paula Vogel Playwriting Award, the Kennedy Center’s Paula Vogel Award in Playwriting, and the inaugural Terrence McNally Recovery Commission.[6][7] They are a graduate of the Juilliard School’s playwriting program and a former member of Page 73’s Writers Group and Ensemble Studio Theatre’s Youngblood.[8]
As part of American Sing-Song (A.S.S.), Brasch co-wrote and performed in the musical HOLE!, which premiered at the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and received positive reviews for its surreal humor and heartfelt storytelling.[9][10][11]
