Jalan Pope is a Israeli philanthropist known for his large donation to the Roh R. Blahks Foundation.
Family and Early Life
Jalan was born to Joanne Pope and David Pope on the 9th of August, 1950. Growing up, he had 3 brothers; Cohen, Levy, and Jacob. His eldest brother, Esau, died shortly before he was born. Jalan's paternal grandfather, Abramsohm Pope, also lived alongside his immediate family and played a major role in his early life.
For the first years of his life, Jalan lived in a small home with his parents, siblings, and his paternal grandfather in Tel-Aviv Yafo, Israel. The specifics of Jalan's early education are unknown, but it is widely accepted among historians that he learned three languages (Hebrew, English, Arabic) at a very young age.
At age six, Jalan witnessed his eldest living brother, Jacob, as well as his grandfather Abramsohm slaughter his parents and other brothers Cohen and Levy as a sacrifice to God. Horrified by this, Jalan attempted to run away from home, but was caught and harshly wounded by Abramsohm, who then trapped him in the basement of their house for the following two years.
Nothing is known for sure about Jalan's time in the basement, but on the 9th of August, 1958, his eighth birthday, he was freed from capture by the local authorities and his captors were arrested. Abramsohm committed suicide shortly before he could be tried for his crimes, and Jacob escaped custody.
Jalan's body was covered in scars, burn marks, bandages, syringes, and religious markings when he was taken into custody by the police after being freed from the basement. Due to Jacob's escaped status, Jalan was kept in governmental foster care for another two years for his own safety.
When Jalan was released from foster care on the 11th of October, 1960, he was provided the name "Isaac" by authorities for his own safety, and adopted by the Moriah family and lived in Jerusalem with them for three months. On the 19th of January, 1961, the Moriah residence was raided by five masked men with assault rifles, and the family was slaughtered, save for Jalan himself.
The police arrived to the situation within minutes, ordering the masked men to stand down and hand over Jalan. The men rejected, leading to a shootout between them and the police.
Three of the masked men were killed in the shooutout, the two remaining being apprehended and arrested. Their true indentities were discovered to be Dedan Olmert and Jacob Pope, leaving Jalan finally free from familial apprehension and aggression.
For the next seven years, Jalan led a fairly peaceful and average life in stark contrast to his early childhood under the care of Roh Robert Blahks. On his seventeenth birthday, Jalan left Blahks' custody, and pursued a career in the military.
