Jaleh Esfahani - Persian: ژاله اسفاهاني‎; born * 1921 in Isfahan; † 29. November 2007 in London was a female poet and political activist.

Biography[edit]

Jaleh Esfahani[1][2] was born in 1921 in the Iranian city of Isfahan. After graduating from school, she worked at the National Bank. In 1945, she taught literature at a military school in Tabriz. In 1946, she emigrated to the Soviet Union and completed her studies at the philological faculty of Baku State University in 1952. She successfully defended her doctoral thesis entitled “Modern Poetry in Iran” at Lomonosov University in Moscow. Since 1965, she was a member of the Union of Tajik Writers. Jaleh Esfahani[3][4] died on November 29, 2007.

Publications[edit]

Her first poems were published in 1938. Her books have been published in Iran, Russia[5][6], Azerbaijan, England, France, and Tajikistan.
