Jalex

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Jalex is a style of self-deprecating humor popularised in 2016. The name Jalex is a portmanteau of the names of the two people credited with defining the style: Jay Smith and Alex Crockford. Jalex humour is characterised by a generally self-deprecating style, combined with strong uses of irony and gallows humor with strong suicidal intent, which typically aim to suggest that the speaker acts happy, but is secretly suffering from severe depression on the inside. Hand gestures such as fingerguns are often used as part of this style. The style originated in the UK sometime around 2014-15 as an injoke between the two friends, but began to increase in popularity in early 2016. Jalex humor is often linked[1][not in citation given] to and arguably has its beginnings in the internet meme community, particularly in Facebook pages and groups[2][not in citation given] which typically follow similar themes as Jalex.
